This pregnancy was never going to be easy :(
Had my second anomally scan today as baby could not be seen properly last week and same today. It had a low amnotic level and it's measuring at about 19 weeks. Anyone experienced this? I'm so scared and upset and would love to hear someone who had the same experience

Hi there, I'm afraid I can't make you feel any better but I'm currently going through the same. I'm 21 weeks pregnant with twins and one of my babies has very low amniotic fluid and is measuring 2-3 weeks behind where it should be (has been diagnosed with IUGR - intrauterine growth restriction). It is so hard as there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it, but I have read that drinking lots and lots of water can sometimes help the fluid levels? And resting as much as possible, I have been doing both for the last week whilst crying a lot too!

I just feel so helpless. What are your hospital's plans for you? I had an anomaly scan at 20 weeks, went to see consultant yesterday and have a further scan planned for next Friday to check on growth - I'm so scared.

Rachel x

They said it could be IUGR too, I've an amnio next Tursday with another scan, then a scan on the Monday and take it from there. It's just so hard not knowing....drinking water so much my bladder is constantly bulging!
It's not nice to hear someone else going through the same thing but it's nice we can reassure each other because it's so hard to know what you experience in this. Hope your fluid levels pick up next week and baby grows a lil

Have they advised to have the amnio because that could be the cause of the low fluid? They've mentioned it to me but said they wouldn't want to risk it because of the other twin. Did you have the nuchal screening? I had it at 12 wks and risk was low in both twins although much lower in bigger twin).

Hope Tuesday goes ok, it's such a horrible time x

They dont know why its not growing so they want to rule out any chromosonal things so they can treat me, I didn't get a nuchal screen so I dont know.....

Well lots and lots of luck to you, let me know how you get on. I don't know about you but I just feel in limbo at the moment, any excitement I had for the pregnancy has been replaced with fear and worry x

You too hun, I don't think I will ever be able to relax for the rest of the pregnancy. Keep in touch x

Hi there, Lil-star - just wondered how the amnio went today? Hope you are ok and it was relatively painless.

I'm back in for another scan tomorrow, very nervous

I decided not to get it, after another scan they now think it's more placental and it might not survive much longer so not much point getting the amnio. :(
Good luck tmrw x

Oh hun, I'm so so sorry to hear this. We have been told the same but didn't like to say before as your situation could have been different to mine. How we even begin to cope with this I don't know - I just feel helpless, it's all going on in my body but I have no way of helping or controlling this just the hideous wait for the next scan.

Take care of yourself, while baby's heart is still beating there is still hope xx

Thinking of you. Hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Small measurements were picked up on my 20 week scan, Connor was measuring along the 5th centile, I had regular growth scans and he tracked along his growth curve fine until around 30 weeks when the growth slowed right down, I then had the blood flow measured across the placenta as well as growth scans. At the scan at 33+5 I had the first of two steroid injections to mature the lungs as the growth had again remained static. I had ctg monitoring as well with the plan to deliver by c-section at 36 weeks but Connor had other ideas and my waters went at 34+4 and after not progressing to labour I had a c-section at 34+6. He was born screaming and needed no assistance with breathing. He weighed 2lb 11 1/2 oz due to the severe IUGR but other than that he just needed to grow. He is now nearly a year old, he is still small but doing really well. They still haven't found the cause for the IUGR other than the placental was small and poorly formed.

My fluid level was always fine but I know someone else who had a really poor prognosis at 20weeks due to low fluid (not IUGR though) and she managed to hang on until 30 weeks and her little girl is doing well.

Wishing you both well xx

They arent sure if it's placental now or what.....just have to wait and see. Theres a thickening around one side of the heart so have to get a cardiologist to look at it but in 7 days it's weight went from 275g to 350g better than the 40g the previous week. Trying not to hold onto too much hope, the doctors arent very hopeful

Thinking of you hun. I hope your little man holds on.

I'd advise as much bedrest and fluids as possible - it definately can't hurt. Keep following up with your DR appointments and keep asking for answers - don't be fobbed off by "we'll just wait and see". Ask them if there is anything you can do to make the tiniest of differences and research online too.

Praying for your little fighter xxx

EDIT - no idea why I presumed a boy, I thought I read "him" xx

Ohh Raquel, thinking of you and hoping your next scan shows a ray of hope. It's a dreadful position to be in, wouldnt wish it on anyone :hugs:
