just got back from my anatomy scan and it took about 15 minutes!

Got a clear look of everythin Baby was very cooperative! Everythin is perfect and on track with him no problems thank goodness.

Interestingly enough today the ultrasound tech pointed out my placenta and I asked where about is it and she said front- anterior!

I find this so bizzarre as I have felt proper kicks from 16+4 and felt strong movement from 18 Weeks every day up til now. I have even seen my stomach move on the outside where he kicks or turns! I thought that an anterior placenta made it take time To feel movement? Also when Baby kicked and moved on the screen I felt the movement at the same time. He is wriggling around as I type this lol he has actually been quite active today.

Also are their any risks or complications with an anterior placenta? I have an appointment with my ob on Friday and will ask him To confirm about the placenta as he has not mentioned it To me before.

I had anterior placentas with all 3 of my LO's, I felt my 3rd move from 14 weeks which surprised me, but even though you tend to feel kicks later with an anterior placenta its not guaranteed :). There's no problem with having an anterior placenta unless it is low, but they'd have told you if it was.

I have an anterior placenta like you and I have felt 'the bubbles' since 15 weeks and kicks since 16/17 weeks. I thought it was strange I was feeling the baby early but happy I have tho xx

An anterior placenta will no cause any problems. Why would it?
Also with #1 I had one and felt fluttets starting at 15ish weeks and within a week or two was able to see them and my husband could feel them!
This time my placenta is posterior and I felt and saw movements around a week earlier.

It can actually cause problems if the placenta stays low throughout the pregnancy as it makes a c-section difficult to perform. Most placentas move up as the pregnancy progresses, but your doctor will monitor this. Also, most babies like to face the placenta (my baby doesn't even flip to the other side she loves hers so much) that you can run the risk of a "sunny side up" baby, instead of them being born facedown. This is not a risk necessarily, but can make your labor slower and more painful in your back.

Tesh try not to worry though, this anterior placenta business is out of our hands. I had a 3D ultrasound a few weeks ago and my baby was very active and then when she fell asleep the ultrasound tech said that she pushed her face into the placenta and went to sleep :haha: She said that they like momma's heartbeat pulsing through the placenta, which I find very sweet. <3

Thanks for all your responses ladies :flower:

It helps as I know what questions To ask my doc on Friday.

Biscuits oh man I think that is so adorable how u talk about the babies Loving the placenta! So cute! My lo was also facing the placenta on all our scans. Very good point about babies being face up instead of face down for this reason..

I had an anterior placenta with my son but always felt a lot more movement, so I never really understood that!

I feel more movement this time & have an anterior placenta. My first boy was very chilled out, this girls the karate kid :)

I think a lot can depend on where the placenta actually is as well, I didn't expect to feel much until 18 weeks plus, like with my last pregnancy as that was also anterior but have been feeling consistent movement from 15 plus 4.
When I asked at my gender scan she said that mine is anterior but is also the back so half and half?

It shouldn't cause problems unless it's low but then a posterior can also cause problems low down too so I really wouldn't worry about that. Incase of cesareans your doctor will know where it is positioned so will work around it.
I have heard it is more likely to cause back to back but again I would t worry about that either, my last pregnancy was normal yet dd2 who had a posterior placenta was direct back to back, there are things you can do later to encourage baby into a better position and if he still then ends up back to back then there's no reason you won't be able to birth him the same, personally I found dd2 no more difficult than my others although I know that isn't always the case for everybody. :)

In my last pregnancy the placenta was at the top but slightly forward. They have to pick an option so I was technically anterior but felt kicks etc... Really well

Yeah a low placenta can be an issue.

I can vouch for that, my son was sunny side up and I had awful back labor.

I had it with my first and felt movements late but that could also be down to it being my first pregnancy. No complications or anything x

Had an anterior placenta with my 1st, posterior with 2nd and anterior again this time! With my 1st I was feeling movement from 12 weeks and actual kicks from 14+5. 2nd I felt movement from 10 ish weeks and kicks from 12-13 weeks. This time I've been feeling movement from around 9-10 weeks and kicks from around 12 weeks. I've been able to see movement from 17 ish weeks, the earliest of my 3 pregnancies, and around that time the time I feel most movement started to regulate. I have noticed that I don't tend to feel movement towards the centre of my bump, where the placenta is, and instead feel it towards the very top, low down, to the sides and even in my back!
Unless the placenta is low and a csection is needed then it's unlikely an anterior placenta will cause any issues. My first was a relatively straightforward birth with baby in the optimum position, though she only turned from breech at 36 weeks!

Beca

There's no reason for concern, unless you've had a previous c-section, which would only be if the placenta dug into the scar incision, etc. This is very rare.
I had a anterior placenta with my 3rd baby, and felt movements much later. I'm pretty sure I have an anterior placenta with this baby as well, but have felt movements from 10+ weeks. However the movement I feel are only really far down, or to the sides. Each pregnancy is different and there's nothing to worry about;)

Try not to worry about this first part - if your placenta was anterior and low (which can be serious) you would have been told this at your scan

Hi ladies thanks for all your responses and for sharing!

Doc confirmed anterior placenta today and was not concerned at all and said it was high. I feel movement right in the middle where my belly button is as well as bottom and mostly on the right side, hardly anything on the left side except an occasional light tap.

This makes me think that the placenta in indeed anterior but prob more toward my left side- if that makes sense? Hence I am still feel strong movement all round except for the left side!

Also I have only ever seen my belly move in the centre by the belly button and on the right which would make sense if I am indeed correct.

Yeah im the same way I only feel kicks on right side and down low lol

I had anterior with my second. First movement was felt around 13 weeks I believe. I felt him move all the time, but I will say it was not near as strong later on in pregnancy as my first was. But maybe he was just lazy.
