I have had such a down day and need lots of virtual hugs!

I had a sweep last weds at 39 weeks and had maybe 6 hours of mild contractions, lost my plug and then it stopped. Certainly not labor.

Then yesterday I had to go in to hospital for monitoring and they performed another sweep (well they actually did 2 sweeps!). I was 3-4cm baby was deeply engaged and she was sure I would be in labor last night. We started driving home (45 minutes away). We got 20 minutes into the journey and pretty strong contractions started at 3 minutes apart. I got home, picked up my stuff and headed straight back to hospital. I was admitted to l&d fully expercting to give birth to our son. Contractions continued at around 3-4 minutes apart and were pretty strong. I had to breathe through them and they made my toes curl! I was checked upon admittance and I was still 3cm which was fine as it was still early days. I had a show and lost more plug.

Contractions continued at less than 5 minutes for a whole 8 hours at a pretty high intensity. I was checked again and still no progress:cry: The baby had actually disengaged himself and turned back to back so my contractions were not having an effect on my cervix. I was so upset. They wanted to keep me in but I was soooooooo tired and deflated I decided to come home and try to get some rest. I slept last night waking with just a few contractions and this morning they had all but stopped :cry:I have been so down about it today.

Has this happened to anyone else? I just don't feel that this baby actually wants to come out. They need him out though due to size and previous problems so now I am worrying that I will have to be induced next week.

I just can't believe this. I am so upset  I guess i felt like a complete failure!

So sorry you are having such an awful time. :hugs: I was in labour for three days with my son so I know how you feel. I'm surprised they didn't try to get the contractions going stronger with drugs to get you dilating more, they did with me and I was very thankful. Hope you don't have to wait until next week. Good luck to you. x

:hugs: Don't feel like a failure its not ur fault!
Sorry to hear ur having a rough time. I'm sure baby won't b long, it's frustrating waiting especially seen as u were having contractions. Keep active to get baby shifting down and I hope baby arrives soon for u. Lots of hugs and good luck xxxxx

I had the same with my last one and how (I think) I finally got things moving is putting the tens machine on when they started up again I had my little girl the next morning after theyd been stop starting for 4 days so I know how you feel hunni its awful but worth it in the end :) my little girl kept bouncing herself on and off my cervix starting contractions off and then she'd move back off again stopping them lol also I think because the contractions had been doing something my labour when she did finally engage properly was very quick and actually quite painless as id got that used to the damn contractions by then lol good luck im sure your little one will be with you soon xx

Thanks everyone. It's nice to know I am not alone. I just feel crap.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Aww dont feel bad im sure it will be coming very soon, big hugs xx

Hi Lea

Yup, I am in exactly the same boat as you. I am 4cm dilated (or I was on Monday) and after a sweep started to get some pretty regular contractions. Went into hospital and was kept in for a couple of hours to see what would happen and slowly they started to die off. I too asked to come home as I could tell nothing was happening. My waters were apparently bulging so I'm afraid to go anywhere that is not home in case they go in public.

It is now Thursday and I keep getting regular contractions that then peter out into nothing and I'm getting so frustrated! On the plus side our bodies are doing all the work but we are still able to function. I've managed to get so much stuff done around the house since Monday and it is nice being able to watch DVD's and spent time with my OH before the baby comes.

I'm trying to just relax now. Our bodies know what they are doing and when the time comes it just means we don't have as far to go :) Feel free to PM me anytime for support, together we'll get through it!
