I went back to work in june from maternity leave, ever since I returned to work they have had it in for me :-( I was back about a week, got pulled into the office and they were saying how much I had changed and had an awful attitude now. I got on very well with my bosses before I had my son. Since coming back to work I had been through alot of shit family problems and my oh had just got a new job working away at weekends and some weekdays so I was and still am feeling like a single parent. Anyway I shrugged it off but week after week I would get pulled into their office to get moaned at for petty things, I only work 2 days a week but I feel like they just want rid of me. I had a staff appraisal a few months ago, they didnt say one nice thing about me or give me any praise what so ever, they said I am not motivated to the company as I dont attend staff meetings ect ect I then wrote a letter of complaint to my area manager saying they were not supportive to working mothers and basically saying I couldnt attend these meetings as they were out of working hours and on days I wasnt in, also I dont have childcare after 6pm as my oh works away and my mum and dad live in spain, which they know all this anyway got a response basically saying they understand but every other working parent manages, wtf how can they understand none of them understand how hard it is to be a working basically single parent with no help, they all have partners with them everyday. Anyway got on with working, I work in a nursery so I was due for my sssc renewal I filled out application and sent it off, they then turned round and said I was too late sending it off so I couldnt work for them untill it came back which took aprox 6 weeks, obviously unpaid I was soooo worried stressed and upsetabout how I was going to pay my los nursery our mortgage and bills. Turns out another girl was in the same situation, only when they found this out did they actually come up with a plan to keep us both working. That really pissed me off they were willing to get rid oof me but as soon as she came forward they change their minds. Now last week I was on a break so went to the shops out of the nursery grounds and had a fag. I got pulled into the office next day I was in and got a written warning for smoking. Apparently a parrent whos child hasnt even started yet, the childs due to start next year, seen me smoking on the way over to the shops and gave an exact description of me, said I had my jacked zipped up but she could see
my teeshirt collar and that she seen me throw my fag butt away. I explained first off that I followed the smoking policy by covering my uniform up and I only threw my fagg butt away as there were no bins to dispense of them. I also got told off for smoking at the bus stop after I had finished my shift and was going to collect my son apparently someone else had seen me do that. I also im due to go to a first aid course, I couldnt attend there last one as I was away on holiday. They didnt ask before hand if I had plans on that day and have booked me onto it on one of the days I am off but I needed that day off as we are gettin a new window put in, when I explained I couldnt go because I needed to be there whilst they put the window in and again I have no childcare they simply said you have to go. And the best of it I have to pay for it because I missed the last one because I eas on holida. So as well as having to pay another 50 pounds for my son to attend nursery that day I am also going to have to pay another 50 pounds for the course so im 100 pound out of pocket already and wont be getting my window done until after christmas :-( sooo pissed off, can someone give meadvice on what to do? Does this seem unfair? Or am I being unfair? I ve had enough ready to walk out

It does sound like they are targeting you. How long have you worked there for? If it's less than 2 years then I don't think there's a lot you can do as you don't have the same legal rights.
I would suggest you get a free half hour consultation with an employment solicitor, go through what you have stated here and see what they can suggest.
Also start keeping a diary of things that happen as in the future you could use it as proof of constructive dismissal. Any written proof of things happening would be really good. If you are being continually told off just ask them to put it in writing so you can assess where you are going wrong and figure out a way to amend it - more proof for you.

Hope things get better though.

Can you look for a new job, it seems like they're waiting to find a good enough reason to get rid of you.

Sounds like they are targeting you. Surely they have to give you some sort of notice and have your consent to send you on a training course? And to make you pay for it sounds ridiculous!! As said above I would start keeping a diary of it all and I would go see Citizens Advice ASAP!! Xx

Thanks for your replies I have been there 5 years so a long time. Thats a good idea about keeping a little diary of the things that are happening I will start doing that. I ve booked an appointment with citzens advice but as usual its a few weeks away. My sons nursery knows the trouble im having and have told me to hand my CV in as the may have a position available for me so fingers crossed. It would be so much easier working there as I can still have my son in the same nursery, the pay is so much better and I may be able to work more as its so ideal x
