I'm so scared...my sister went into premature labour last night and had her twins at only 28+6. They took the babies to another hospital with a NICU, and she's had five tranfusions and a surgery to try and stop the bleeding. Please pray for her and the babies...she only got to she one before she passed out. Can they do okay being born that early? BIL said they looked strong and they weighed about three pounds each...

Hey Miss M

So sorry to hear about your sister :hugs:

Yep babies can do very well at that weight - 3lb is a good weight! Sounds like you have got a pair of fighters on your hands auntie!

My friend lives in Naples Florida and gave birth just before 27 weeks, Jaden was only a little over 2lb and now he is a 4 year old bruiser!!!

How is your sister doing now?x

Thanks hun! She's still out from the surgery..I'm trying to get a hold of BIL but has his phone off in the hospital. I'm so worried about her losing all of that blood as she's always been anemic anyways. They're identical little girls but not sure of their names yet. They were just working on the nursery this weekend.

they are little new year miracles and i'm sure they will be fine. Your poor sister must be totally exhausted. Why don't you ring the hospital? You are family so they should be able to tell you how she is doing? If she is out of surgery and in recover then i would say that is really positive - hopefully she will be feeling well enough in 24 hours to be wheeled into the NICU and see her 2 new little girls x

I just talked to BIL, sis is out of surgery! He said after the birth, her stomach was getting bigger instead of smaller because it was filling with blood but they injected her uterus with something and did a D&C and after six transfusions she's okay. Babies are at a different hospital as the one she delivered at is only equipped for 32 weeks and up. He said one was breathing on her own for a few minutes but both are now on ventilators.

Sounds worse than it is - that means there lungs are pretty good if they were able to breathe unassisted to start eh? They'll just need a bit of help for them to develop.

When my friend had her twins she was in hospital from 12 weeks with pre-eclampsia. DRs said that if she could get to 30 weeks the babies would need little assistance - so if your sister is only just shy of it, they should just need a little bit of help and some careful monitoring.

This is girls for you - we are so impatient and those little ladies just couldn't wait to come out and meet you all!:friends:

Hi

sorry to hear this has happend for your sister so early, but, a friend of mine had her son at 24+5 at the end og Nov, he was just under 2lbs. he is fighting fit and has just started taking breaks from his ventilator!

3lb is pretty good considering!

hope they keep safe and well xx

Hey hun, awww im praying that they will be ok, I've heard alot of twins being born early and being fine and healthy!! my niece and nephew were very early too, and were fine.
Hope your sister is ok
Thinking of you hun xxxx

Thinking of your sister and her precious babies.

Like the other girls, I too know of babies born very premmie. 1 in particular in the IVF forum I go on, a baby was born at under 25 weeks and while there have been a lot of scares, 2 steps forward and 3 steps back etc, he was out of intensive care a month ago and will be going home soon.

I'm sure it will be a very hard and emotional time for you all, but I have every faith that these little babies will be fine :hugs:

Thanks everyone for the positive thoughts. Just back from the hospital, my sister is looking okay, still very weak and has to stay in the hospital for another few days. I'm hoping they can transfer her to the same hospital the babies are at. Twins were having an issue with their heart rates but after a shot are doing much better! Yawning and stretching, the nurse says they are doing well now and their color is great...even had a diaper change in front of Daddy! They don't even have names yet, they were planning to sit down and figure out some names this week as they were soooo sure they were having boys, they have no girl names yet!

Ah hun i am so very pleased for you! What little miracles!

Well here's hoping all of them will be home soon and you'll be paying them a visit! Proud auntie with gifts!!

So here's the update:
Babies had a great night, getting stronger but my sister is not doing so well. Hemoglobin dropped again, they stopped her i.v fluids in case they were diluting blood and are transfusing her again. They were going to transfer her to the babies' hospital today but now are just trying to stabilize her. Please send out good thoughts for her...she is my best friend and I am so scared of losing her.

Aw hun im so sorry your sister isnt doing to good, im praying for her babe!
Glad the twins are well
xxxx

hope your sister and babies get well soon!!! :hugs:

Really hope your sister gets better soon. Sending out lots of prayers and healing thoughts to your sister and her new babies.

Keep us updated. Hope you're ok xxx

Thanks everyone, it's really hard since she's about 2 hrs away and now it's snowing like crazy and the highway to their place is known for whiteouts and being closed down. So, unfortunately all I can do is wait by the phone for updates...and drive myself crazy googling everything! My DH's good friend is a midwife, so I may call her and see what she thinks...

:hug:Thinking of you and your sis and 2 little ones sending lots and lots of positive vibes x x x x x :hug:

Hey Missmarls

Any update?

Very glad those bubba's are strong chick - sounds like they are fighting fit already! How's your sister doing now? :friends:

Well sis has had more transfusions but is now up and walking and they took out urinary catheter so things seem to be improving (thank god).
Apparently the nurses in the NICU are fighting over who gets to care for the twins...they said they are soo sweet and easy to care for. Daddy even got to hold the bigger girl. And they have names now, I started crying as twin B has my name as her middle name. I have pics of them I'll try to post..

I have a childhood friend who had kidney failure, her baby boy was born at 26 weeks at 1 1/2 lbs. You would never know it today. He is a thriving, BIG little boy!!! Thinking of your family during this time...
