I really wanted to be able to enjoy my maternity leave.
After my OH lost his job when I was 4 months pregnant he found another which was better paid and I thought I could relax and not have to panic about money when on maternity leave, but no nothing is ever that simple.
He has injured his shoulder at work resulting in him having to do 'light duties' but his work are being incredibly difficult about it. His GP and the surgeon have said he is not to do his normal job until his shoulder is recovered or he will end up needing surgery and possibly his have to give up his job. His companies occupational health assessor have said that he is fine to return to work "with restrictions" so his manager has taken this to mean he can just do his normal job - they didn't even bother assessing his movement or giving him a physical assessment.
I'm so panicked that he is going to end up damaging himself more and losing his job. With me being on maternity leave we really wouldn't have enough to live on and we have a mortgage (albeit a small one) to pay as well as our car loan.
Does anyone know what help we would be entitled to if the worst came to the worst? Me going straight back to work is not an option as I have to give 4 months notice. We are also not allowed a mortgage holiday.
OH is putting in a claim against his employer for damages and to cover us if he does have to give up work as he would never be able to get a job in that field again and his experience in other areas is limited, but that wouldn't come through for ages.
