So, what ARE we entitled to! (LONG - NEED ADVICE)

At the moment all I'm hearing about is what we AREN'T entitled to as it stands. Its really disheartening too as its like being slapped in the face and left to rot!

Our situation:

At the moment me (18) and my OH (20) are living seperatly. I have a house-share and rent a room and he lives with his dad (soon moving so we have found our new place which IF all goes well we should be moving in a week)

As it is, I am currently on JSA and would be going on to Income Support at 29wks (fat chance of finding a job at 5 months preg no matter how good I would be at it!) BUT I just got told that if me and my OH are living together (he works) I wouldn't get anything.

So! the house we are moving to is £460 a month plus a council tax Band B and my OH earns about £750 a month working 40hrs a week before tax and I have about £2000 in savings to use until baby gets here Dec 31st to help us along with extras like bills/shopping.

Is there anything that we ARE entitled to in this situation??

Also, what is everyones opinions on how we'll get along on this, do you think we'll be okay??? I'm really worrying about money :'(

:hugs:

Hey,

At the moment you would not qualify for wokring tax or child tax credit but once little un' is born you will qualify for both. Reason being that if not resp for children you need to be aged 25 or over to claim. once resp for children you only need to be over 16!!

Once little un' is born then you would get child tax credit of approx 68.00p/w and working tax of approx 140.00 p/w. This is not a full years entitlement as you are only claiming part way through the year.

You may also qualify for sure start maternity grant
https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyT...ort/Expectingorbringingupchildren/DG_10018854

and possible health in pregnancy grant
https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyT...ngupchildren/HealthinPregnancyGrant/index.htm

There's always child benefit
https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/TaxCreditsandChildBenefit/Childbenefits/index.htm

and possibly child trust fund
https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/ManagingMoney/SavingsAndInvestments/DG_10018527

depending on what your employmnet status was before you may qualify for maternity allowance.

hope that helps and good luck x

Try putting your ages, his income etc into https://www.entitledto.com and see what it says.

You will be eligible for the HiPG as that's for all mums from 25wks.

Also, try applying for HB & CTB. The worst they can do is say no.

Hey, Im 17 and my oh is 20, when we first moved into our own house all we got was housing since he has a 14k per year job so just over 900 take home per month. Our rent is 495 per month and housing gave us 151 per month for help with rent.

Now we get the same housing plus £106 per week in child tax credits and working tax,and child benefit and we also get a NHS card

Oh and our tax band is A

Im a stay at home mummy, to be honest we pay all the bills out of Oh's and have about £100 left over then we get the tax/working credits and chid benefit and our housing benefit comes in every 2weeks. Tax credits are till you child is 16-18 i believe but with the school age changing ect it may go longer lol after your baby turns 1 though they go down. Id say i have enough money ok i dont have a sky, but i have the internet me and Oh both have contract phones, and enough money to keep me buying baby items all the time just because i want it/it looks nice. The hardest part is buying everything you need for your house.

Well in our situation (as I explained in first post) do you think we'll do okay for money?? We have practically all our furniture so thats not a worry to me, its just being able to eat and pay bills which frets me!! Yeah I don't think i'm too fussed about having digital, we'll make do with freeview :happydance:

Tax credits continue automatically until the child sept after the childs 16th birthday (providing you are still theor main carer). If they cont into full time non advanced education, eg a-levels, nvq's etc then it can cont until they are 20. if they go uni or start work full time then it stops

any children starting secondary school as of this year now have to stay till there 18 so ive been told, so im guessing the tax credits then still continues till there 18 since its still mandatory schooling. ( providing the person who gave me this info was correct on the matter)

As to above i think you should be ok, it will be hard to start with getting used to what you can and cannot spend, but i would write down everything i had going out for the month so i new how much i would have left over and since Oh gets paid the last day of the month we made sure all the bills came out on the 1st so we did not have to worry about leaving bill money in the bank, but honeslty you just get used to living a different way, you give up somethings but gain others.

Since your Oh earns less than mine and you wont be working you will get more housing benefit than us, and considereing we pay £75 for car insurence £65 for our mobiles and insurence on the house ect.. Its harder before the baby comes along we found because now his here we get money every week, so we do everything at the start of the month stock up on everything for us and him but every week we have money come in, if he needs something new and fast we have the money if we get hit with a bill we have the money,

i can sympathise with you, i am entitled to nothing benefit wise as OH works full time, he is in £160 a week and we cant get council tax etc. as soon as you live together your income support/jsa will stop. its nasty!

luckily i do have 2 kids already so get tax credits and child benefit NOT that this goes far.
