hi all, my little man is 2weeks old and from week 1 he has been really hungry feeding on aptamil taking around 5ounces and sometimes 6ounces every 3-4 hours. He's thriving and has put on 10ounces from birth but he is having dirty nappies A LOT - I mean like every feed - is that normal???

Also last night i noticed some mucus in his nappies and again this morning? what could this be? he has nappy rash due to the constant pooping - but what would the mucus be? I've changed his milk to cow and gate now - do i need to wean him over or can i just change? how would i wean??

So many questions but I just don't know who to turn to....thanks xxxx

I'd the poo runny? Sounds like your baby might be having a bad reaction to the formula I would ask your hv or go to the doctors.

Personally it sounds totally normal to me. And going 3-4 hours is amazing. Re the poo my lo always went after ( or during) a feed.

Edited to say the mucus could be a milk protein intolerance. Does your lo seem uncomfortable?

It could just be them getting used to the formula- but if its defiantly diarrhea (loose watery BM- usually explosive) and it goes on for more than 24 hours- best to get him checked out- just in case of dehydration- the Doctor can then start to look at allergy's/intolerances if that's appropriate. New borns can poo a LOT. in fact at times it feels like all they do is eat and poo. Pooing at every feed is normal- diarrhea isn't.

this might be helpful- as gross as it sounds. https://www.babycenter.com/baby-poop-photos
