Hi, please someone help me with ideas for food for my nearly 9 month old. Currently she is having porridge for breakfast, half an ella's pouch and a yoghurt for dinner and a full ella's pouch and yoghurt for her tea. She has been eating the same amount for about 6 weeks now and me and my husband feel she should be eating more and have more variety. I havent a clue what to feed her though, i thought about maybe for her dinner something like spegghti (excuse the spelling) hoops on toast, but i looked at the little tins of heinz childrens ones, the ones with princess and mr men on ect but everything has salt in it, i dont understand how people give their children a little of what they are eating for the childs meals when everything has some salt content. I am absoultly terrified of giving my DD salt as ive heard so many bad things about it, but i dont know if that just refers to newborns and at my DD age she can have salt and if she can how much a day. Im sorry if im going on a bit but im desperate to give my DD more food, any ideas will be gratefully apprieciated.

I'll give u a quick idea of things I give my lo 8 and a half months but I'm sure others will give better ideas! For breakfast he has either: porridge with fruit egbanana, the cow and gate wheat flakes which he's crazy about or toast sometimes with egg. For lunch he has lots of different things like chicken, veg and potato, bread with some unsaltrd butter and cucumber, butternut squash and apple, sweet potato wedges, broccolli pear and peas, lamb and veggies, pork and apple. Yesterday i made him pancakes with blueberries. Tea is a similar thing. I'm not a natural cook at all and make him up stuff to freeze. There's a great book by sainsburys (if you're uk) that has loads of nice ideas and recipes like baby bubble and squeak and chicken, coriander and sweet corn. I whack it all in the steamer, mash and freeze. Oh I also add milk a lot to fruit to make a creamier pudding. Hope this helps!

Once you've introduced your little one to all different kinds of fruit/veg steamed separately (to make sure no allergies), you can start giving her whatever you eat.

My daughter is just a year, and I make homemade mini muffins with grated fruit and natural juice (no sugar) for her breakfast. So, she has 1 of those and some cottage cheese with fruit puree on top for breakfast, then lunch and dinner is whatever we have: pasta fagioli, red lentil soup, bean ragu with rice, stew, grilled chicken and sautéed veggies. My daughter is now in-love with cumin and coriander. I don't use salt or cheese in anything. And, I use a potato masher now that she's a bit older instead of an immersion blender to get to bit size bits.

Use your imagination---it's actually fun :)

My lo always has a half a banana for breakfast, just holds and eats it. In addition to that he has one of the following... some cantaloupe slices, yogurt with fruit purees, steamed apples and pear slices with cinnamon (he LOVES), oatmeal with fruit, avocado mashed chunky.. anything really. For dinner he has things like steamed broccoli, orzo, sweet potatoes, avocado, butternut squash. I would like to experiment more with giving him different things for dinner (tea) but I seem to be in a bit of a rut. He doesn't have a lunch yet although sometimes I will give him an unsalted rice cake or some plain cheerios to snack on mid day. There are lots of recipes out there that are both baby and adult friendly. Id like to try more.. specifically a type of risotto or something along those lines.

To the pp, the mini muffins sound like a great idea!

Ohhh I love the idea of mini muffins might give those a try tomorrow :0)

You can literally give 'adult' food at 9 months. Roast dinners, spaghetti bolognese, meatballs and pasta, chilli and rice, shepherd pies, omelettes, pancakes, any fruit and veg.... Just either leave the salt out entirely or just put it on once you have taken your Lo's portion out. Obviously stock cubes etc have salt in, but get the low salt ones or don't put them in until you've take your baby's portion out.

The only things you cannot give babies over six months are whole nuts due to the choking risk and honey.

Today my LO had porridge for breakfast, for lunch I gave him toast with cream cheese and segments of orange, a yogurt for a snack and he always has a mini version of what we have for dinner.. today he had chicken, pasta and peas.

I give him everything (except junk food and sweets obviously) I mostly cook from scratch so I don't add any salt to it or I set aside LO's portion before seasoning ours but if we get a takeaway or eat something that we think LO shouldn't have then we just give him something different. I was really over bearing with him not getting messy and dirty so I would feed him myself but I've stopped that now and he can feed himself which he loves!

My LO is 19 weeks and i was told he can have exactly the same food as me and OH as long as, when you do potatos for example, you add no salt to the water! MY LO's menu at the mo is just banana porridge for brekkie, the rest milk, i was told he can have 3 meals a day if he needs and wants it. theres a few things below which i've tried and which i was told he can have at this age so your LO will most deffinatly be able to have it!

Potatos
Carrots
Sweet potato
Parsnips
peas
broccoli
cauliflower
apple
banana
pear
Toast (cut into soldiers)
sticks of cucumber, also helps with teething!

This is just a few of the things i was told my LO can have!
He can also have our meals mashed with a fork (leaving some lumps) just as long as theres no added salt in anything you put in!

I know most things include salt and sugar, but as long as you have no added sugar or salt i was told its fine, ovbiously, its better to get the ones with least in!

Hope this helps!

For lunch today Eloise had potatoes broccoli and steamed salmon mashed together (no need to purée). Really easy to make in a batch, boil the veg and steam salmon in the steamer on top. It only takes about 4 mins.
