Something wrong with my baby's foot? Is it getting worse?

I really hope he is ok. I hate it when a baby/mum is struggling with something!

Yep, that's what his looks like most of the time. He can move it into the correct position but just doesn't keep it that way. So hope physio can help us fix it. Thank you so much for helping again xxx

glad youve managed to find somone who can help lots :)

my eldest son has hypermobility and has orthotic insoles to help correct his foot position and they tend to face inwards which eventually led to his knees turning aswell.

my baby now also walks with twisted feet but they are facing outwards (sometimes to a 90 degree angle). it has been mentioned to his paed who isnt too concerned at the moment but he may also end up with insoles to rectify and prevent any damage to his knees/hips but this will only be once hes been walking for quite a while.

hopefully phsio can help a lot and then possibly orthotics if the are needed :hugs:

Just wondering how your little one's foot is doing now? Spotted my daughter turning hers in just now (stretching it, I think) and thought of you!

Hey, aww that's nice of you :-) still sadly waiting on physio appointment. He still has it turned in a lot of the time but seen a slight improvement with him being in his walker a lot. Hope the appointment comes through soon. Oh and my daughter has been referred too, HV mentioned her right foot (same as my son) turned in and said its why she probably tumbles all of the time. Been advised to have her in trainers to give her ankle better support x

Sorry to hear your still waiting Hun. Mr 13 months is only just being reffered xx

Urgh how annoying to have to wait! Interesting that his sister does it too. I think it CAN run in families because both my brother and my dad have a foot that turns in, but doesn't cause them any problems. I did too as a young child, but after years of gymnastics I don't any more! So kids can just grow out of it.

I also have hypermobile joints.

I agree o definitely think it runs in families. I have it, my eldest had it and now the baby has it.

Yahoo, got a phonecall today from physio who will be doing a home visit tomorrow to see both kids. Will update tomorrow xxx

Wonderful! Hope it's all good news and easily fixed. :D

Well thats my baby boy all sorted with physio. Been given some exercises and stretches to do daily with him. Been advised to avoid putting him in shoes for as long as possible (had no plans anyway as his sister didnt get her first shoes til she was 14 months even though she walked at 9) and he is not to go back in his walker again. Will do whatever it take to make sure hes ok.

Ive to give it a month and if no improvement then ive to take him back. Fingers crossed it works xxx

That's brill that you've been seen now and given something productive to do to help him! I am sure it will help, too - physios are fantastic.

Did they say what the problem might be?

She thinks its a combination of things. She said its most likely he was breech so was all squished up. His position was never checked as i had my c-section booked at 28 weeks for 39 weeks. She said he has probably stayed in the foetal position (he pulls his legs up constantly) due to being used to that. Also having terrible reflux from day 1 he most probably was most comfortable curled up to reduce the pain. It means he has never really stretched out his feet so his muscles just revert back to his normal position. Ive to try bathing him daily and exercising his hips, legs and ankles with the hope of encouraging him to relax down xxx

Aw, I'm glad it's nothing sinister and just a tight muscle. Hope you see results really quickly! :D

Hi THERE!!!

Just saw this!

My first was born with this condition. Not going to describe, but same story as yours. C-section, position in womb, etc.

EXCERSISES won't HELP.

I had to FIGHT to get an appointment with the ORTHOPAEDIC surgeon.

It is called club foot (I was also told that excercises should help, he will grow out, etc.)

It did not in our case. I had to push my GP to give me a referral to the surgeon to get another opinion.

When we got there - surgeon said -why did you not come earlier!! I said, well, it took me 3 months to get to you!
And he said, physio in the cases is BS.

My LO had to wear first a cast on his leg, for 3 or 4 months, to straighten the foot, then special shoes, connected with the bar at an angle, till he was about 9 months old, 24/7. And then for a bit longer during the night (didn' t bother him).

PLEASE, get a referral to a ORTHOPAEDIC consultant in a hospital. Before it' s too late.

If you have other questions, message me.

PS: my lo is 8 years old, and is fine. But, his one foot will always be bigger than the other, and also, have to watch that he is wearing right shoes.

OK, must admit your post is a little scary. What do you mean by 'before its too late' what's the outcome of waiting? The physio did not seem at all concerned and is going to see me again in a months time if things aren't improving. Do you have any pictures of what your lo was like so I can compare? Glad your lo is OK now xxx

Very scary! It isn't necessarily the same thing at all. Though we did mention clubfoot earlier on in the thread.

If it's not addressed early on, surgery might be needed.

I really hope it's not what my LO had, but, to me it looks like that.
Sorry can't upload pictures now.

But, he was born with his foot turned inwards. When you turned it in a right position with hand (firmly), ir would turn. But, as soon as you would let go, it would go back for he turned position. I was told all the bs about massages, physio excercise, etc. All bs. Sorry for my English.
I was sooooo mad at my gp and nurses and all.

I had to FIGHT, really insist my GP to give me a refferal to an orthopedic consultant in a hospital. Also, keep in mind, there will be a wait. So you might not even get there for a month.

Anyways, on the first appointment with a consultant his leg was put in a cast (putting on procedure is not pleasant, but then it didn't bother him at all).
Cast needs to be redone once in a while (don't remember how often).
And then he might have to wear special shoes with a bar across.

Well, that's what we had to do.

I STRONGLY suggest you insist on a orthopedic consultant appointment asap.
And don't let them influence you that he will grow out of it.

Big hugs

I've only uploaded the pictures of his foot turned in but he can and does move it outwards at times. Physio said there was no strict tightness of the muscle so the exercises should encourage it to move out and stay there. GP, HV and physio dont think its a club foot but will keep it in mind. If i dont see an improvement then i will return to my gp to discuss possibility of orthopedic surgeon xxx
