My sons fathers wife has been in his life since he was about 7mths old. And now that he is 3 he knows who everyone is. She has taught him to call her mommy and i find that extremely disrespectful. I could understand if the mother was not in the picture however i am, and much more than her (80/20 custody). I have told her before not to have him call her that and she no she would never, but yet he does and she doesnt correct him. How do i address this situation or do i wait til he gets older since he will then know i am his mother and she is his step parent IF she is still in the picture.

I think you should discuss it with your sons father. She is merely there for as long as she is married to FOB. Tell him how you feel and what you expect. Don't go through her, she is nothing in the long term. She could be temporary for all you know. :)

Have a meeting with all three, stepmum, father and your child. Don't say what the meeting is about just ask your ex and his wife to be there. In front of your son spell it out to them that you are his one and only mother, she is not, nor ever will be his mother. Something like this would upset me so badly I would do something to let everyone know it's not on and totally unacceptable. I would also look the stepmum directly in the eye at the meeting and say ' did you give birth to my child?' when she says no, I'd say ' then who the F do you think you are, allowing and encouraging my son to call you mommy, it stops now'

Grrrrrrrr would totally flip out at that if I were in your position!

My SD accidentally called me mommy a lot when she was around one. She just thought mom was the girl who took care of her. (She also called her aunt mom, which made it better.) I'd also explain to your son that she's not his mom. He may just be confused on what the term Mom means. You think of it as your title, he might just think it's whoever's watching him. Don't go on the presumption that she's temporary. She might not be. So I'd be very very clear about it, but stay respectful. You may have to deal with her for the next 20 odd years.
