I'm breastfeeding my 3 day old baby. As I only expressed for my dd I didn't get sore nipples but this time I have. His latch is fine and when he gets lazy with it I just take him off and wake him up a bit. So is there anything I can do to help the soreness a little until it settles? I already have lansnhol cream.

Is it sore just for the first few seconds, but gets better as he settles in to rhythmic sucks?
Or is it sore through the whole feed?

Do you have any pain in between feeds?

Are they fine unless touched?

Yes normally just sore for the first few sucks. If not I unlatch him and try again. No pain really between feeds but the friction of my clothes (even with breast pads) is sore.

I normally have flat nipples so he does have to work to get them out.

I am a FTM and my DD is now 11 days old and I had sore nipples for the first 6 days or so. Her latch was good, I think it was just because the sensitive skin on my nipples weren't used to seeing so much action! I put nipple butter on after every feed and that helped. After 6 days it started to get better and now I don't have any soreness. I'd say if the soreness persists for more than a week maybe you should see a lactation consultant.

I saw a lactation consultant with my dd so I'm pretty confident he is latching ok and the soreness is just down to constantly being pulled out now. I've got a cream. I was considering getting breast pads with aloe vera. It's good to know it shouldn't last for long.

That's OK, it can hurt while they get the nipple in the right place in their mouth but once it us there and proper feeding has commenced it shouldn't hurt, so it all sounds good and won't last forever.
