in need of help! im 21 and looking to get into vet nursing. i have only 1 good gcse so is the animal care assistant certificate the only entry requirment they will accept?
any advice on getting a work placement at a veterinary surgery, i've sent letters out with no luck, is there anywhere i could advertise at all?
also how realistic am i been? i know the training is hard and i dont drive so id have to get lo into childcare early morning and college is 2 bus's away. not sure if ill be able to do this x

i apologise about the bad grammer! my phone only allows a certain amount of wordslol, thanks for any help xxx

Don't know any answers, sorry... but is there any way you could learn to drive? Seriously it changed my life. I was 21 when I had my daughter, so same age as you and we had to walk everywhere, get buses etc. We also lived a 40 minute walk from the nearest bus stop! Was good for losing weight, but rubbish at the same time. So my mum paid for me to learn to drive and the difference is amazing, things are soooo much easier, you don't realise before you learn, but after I'm thinking how did I manage without the car?

Good luck with your future career :)

thank you for the reply :) i am just about to start to learn to drive (waiting for provisional) but money isn't the best atm so lessons would be when i could afford them. also i am TERRIBLE lol so i reckon it would take me a long time to pass, no where near the time i'd be starting college, i have considered waiting til i could drive but i'd really like to start college next september. and then theres affording a car, insurance petrol, etc. x

I think Cat Lady is a vet nurse so you could try PMing her for advice. Also could you do some unpaid work experience and get your toe in the door that way? Good luck. I hope you get what you want.

Hey Daisy, Have you looked at Groupon? Every now and again driving lessons come up and they are usually really discounted so you should be able to get them cheaper that way.

Could you first ask a vet if you could come along for some work experience, for a week in the way a school would? You probably will need to get your GCSEs organised as I believe that you need a minimum of english, maths and double award science for most courses. You can do them distance with the OU so that means you dont need to worry about getting to and from college. You sound determined so with your determination you will fly through them!!! You could use this year to do some volunteering at an animal shelter even on the days when family can take LO for a while, it will all look great on your CV. I hope this helps!!

thank you for all your replies, its really helped. i am definatley going to look into doing my gcses this year as i am too late to start any college course this year anyway and i can use this year to sort driving out also :) fingers crossed i'll get there, i just can't think of any job i'd be happier doing! xxx
