so, my lo is 7 weeks old and hes allergic to cow and gate and aptamil and sma gold so hes on soya milk, saw my HV and she said he sholdnt be on it as it has female hormones in it and hes under 6 months and told me to switch over to lactose free prescription milk.......

has any one had a similar situation?

i bf but i use formula top ups as i cant express and im now thinking of switching to ff full time

I put my LO on soya formula as my gp wouldn't prescribe lactose free formula without putting he through a lot of horrible tests to prove she couldn't tolerate normal formula! grrr

anyway when I told my HV she said to stay on in for a few weeks, but to try to switch back or get GP to prescribe something on her say so! But she's been on it for about 2 months now and she is thriving on it - so much better than before!

I did some internet research about the health worries concerning soya - there has been research done regarding the thing about something in soya that is 'similar' to oestrogen - it doesn't contain female hormones - but somthing in it is similar to it. Nothing has been proven regarding using formula, but health professionals say their is enough evidence to concern people and they should try to avoid it!

I've just bought some SMA lactose free to try - if she gets on okay I'm switching to that.

But surely if it was that bad they wouldn't be able to sell it?

My eldest was in Soy Formula from 3 weeks old as she was allergic to Milk. She was fine on it & had no issues at all.If she hadnt been allowed this she would have starved as I never produced myself!

I think I agree, my friend had lactose intolerant boy and GP prescribed milk for him as soya milk not recommended for boys. Obvs girls it's not a problem. I think if your worried soeak to GP, plus is get it from GP it'll be free! LOL
