Me and my husband were just talking about names/middle names. We love the name Helena as a middle name, but pronounced Hel-ay-na, not Helen-a. How do we use that name without people constantly pronouncing it wrong? Is there another spelling? My husband suggested Helayna. Any suggestions?

How about the way you wrote it sounding; Helayna

or it could be written these ways;
Helana
Helaina
Helanah

It's a nice name though :)

Personally I think Helayna looks a bit odd and I'd stay with Helena and just pronounce it the way you want. You're always going to get people that can't pronounce it anyway, even with Helayna (Hel-aye-na, Hellaye-na).
I'd just ask myself which way it's spelled "in your head" and which spelling you think looks nice. If you both think Helayna looks nice, then go for it!

TBH I don't think you will be able to stop people pronouncing things wrong. I used to tell people how to pronounce my name and when they repeated it back it would be wrong and they were too dumb to even be able to hear the difference. I would go for Helena xxxx

I agree, stick with the correct spelling Helena and pronounce it how you want.

In the States its pronounced both ways. I do like the spelling Helayna, its not too odd looking to me. That said, different spellings seem to be more accepted in the States vs. UK. (could be wrong)

I think you're right! Some of us Brits, me included, can be a bit snobby about incorrect spellings. I personally dislike spelling names phonetically because I think it looks ignorant and clumsy, like bad spelling and grammar in everyday life. However, I am one of those pedantic people who get annoyed when people confuse there, their and they're!

I would spell it Helaina.

The girl's name Helaina \he-lai-na\ is a variant of Helen (Greek), and the meaning of Helaina is "sun ray, shining light".

I know a helaina , she was my cousins foster mum . Snotty bitch but loved her name :)
