Hi I had egg collection yesterday and they retreived 9 eggs. Got the call from the embryologist and she said the 8 were viable but only 2 have fertilised she said something about the sperm were still swimming around today so it was not a sperm problem but there seems to be no binding to the eggs and this is probably the cause of my infertility. Anyone else had this or know how to help improve it. I know ICSI would have helped but was not aware of this problem beforehand! I have been pregnant before but it was unfortunately an ectopic.

Thanks

Hi jojo55 - We are in similar position, except we used ICSI and still had low fertilisation. I had 9 viable eggs, but only 4 fertilised. Am pretty gutted about it as I honestly didn't think this would happen to us. Have you been given an idea of how good they are (I didn't ask, I was so much in shock and could hardly write down what she'd said) and when you'll have the transfer?
I don't know why we had such poor fertilisation.
It's hard enough having to go through this without added problems, so I totally understand how you feel.x

Hi Lou thanks for the reply.
I have no idea how good they are yet as too devestated to ask. I go in tomorrow at 10:30 for the transfer and they said if they are poor quality then I can have both put back in. I cant believe afer all this that it can be so cruel and this happen too.
Fingers crossed for you hun x

I know what you mean about going through all of it for this to happen. I thought we were doing well up until this morning. I had 24 follicles and they got 14 eggs, so to be told only 4 fertilised is cruel. She told me they'd probably do my transfer Saturday (I don't know how they know that - all I can think now is that what if they don't last until then??)
Maybe the internet isn't such a good thing at times, as all I've read recently is women getting 20/30 eggs and most of them fertilising. I didn't think fertilisation would even be an issue.
Take care and lots of luck for tomorrow. I really hope it works out for you. You never know, it could be twins! x

I don't have any information on this I just wanted to wish both of you luck!

Hi Lous and jojo,
I just wanted to say good luck to both of you. You only need one egg to have fertilised at the end of the day and for it to be strong enough to stick. Ill keep my fingers crossed for you that whatever egg(s) get put back are sticky ones xx

It can be an awful shock to go through the whole process and feel as though you havent been left with many embies to choose from. Keep positive and your fingers crossed.

Fluffy x

Just wanted to wish you all the best i know how stresfull ivf can be x hopefully the ones that are fertilized are good busy ones and are growing well xxx

Thanks everyone!

Come back from my transfer and they put both back in even though they were both good quality (well as far as they know as it was only a 2dt), so fingers crossed. Got to go back for a test on xmas eve!!
Good luck to you all, I hope we all get the best xmas present!!
xx

That's great news. I was thinking about you today and glad it went well. The embryologist rang me this morning to say our embies were doing "fine".I asked her what that meant and she said they were all 2 or 4 cell.My transfer is tomorrow and I'm still really worried they might not make it but this morning's call helped enormously. Here's hoping we have the best Christmas present ever. x

Hope your transfer goes well lou!! Good luck. How many you putting back in?
They said to me on day 2 they should be between 2 and 4 cell and one of mine was a 3 cell and one a 4 cell and I had them put back in exactly 48hrs after collection so I think they have done quite well!
Heres to being PUPO!!!!! Lets hope everyones are snuggling in nicely in their new home for 9 months xxxxxx

Hi ladies, we had IVF in March and out of six eggs none fertilized! It was pretty depressing. The embroyologist said there were only one or two sperm at each egg where as they usually they make like a flower affect around them. They didn't know whether it was sperm or egg issue but said could well be sperm function. My OH has some sperm antibodies so could be related. Anyway, I was really scared about doing ICSI as feared the same result. But have since had two ICSIS. Both on a short protocol which seems to suit me more. The first time six out of 10 eggs fertilized and I had two quite low quality blastocysts put back. But it did not work. This time I had seven eggs and six fertilized. I had three eight cell embroyos put back a week ago. Two are grade 1 and one was grade 2. I am now 41 so the chance for me is very low.. I am also feeling very crampy, some painful so not feeling hopeful. But nevertheless, it can show how cycles can be different and how there are still choices. I'm not giving up yet! Good luck. xx

Fingers crossed greta! Lets hope its third time lucky! They sound like good quality embies and hoping that the cramps are just them getting all snug in their new home! xx

Hi jojo, yes here's to being pupo! I replied on the other thread so won't repeat it all.I told my OH what pupo meant and he thinks it's really funny to call me pupo now. Honestly! Take care and make the most of putting your feet up, I am! x

I just wanted to wish you all the luck and fingers crossed all goes really well x x
