When was your OH asked to provide a sperm sample for anysis?

When me and my ex first started trying he did a sperm sample as part of the initial investigations in 2004 and it came back normal.

This time round my DP hasn't been offered a test at all. When we went to see the gynecologist he referred to my ex's sperm sample which I had to correct him on. Not his fault, he just assumed DP was my ex.

I've been for all my tests since being referred at the Fertility Clinic but DP hasn't been invited for any. We are due to go back on Dec 1st to discuss results from my tests, sign the papers and hopefully discuss a course of treatment.

Will he get offered a test at this point and will this potentially delay things even further whist we wait for those results before treatment is discussed?

Should I be requesting a test for him before our appointment?

I would say he needs to have a SA, im not really sure why they havnt asked for one as its one of the first tests they do.
Have you had your test results back yet? Hope they all went ok xx

Yes, i would recommend that you inquire to get him a SA. They did that for my DH before I even went to the Gyn for fertility issues.

Hey hun

He definitely needs an SA - our FS said that there was no point focussing on female fertility issues when the majority of fertility issues are due to male factor. If you both get tested at the same time then you will know the way forward a lot sooner. If you are worried your clinic is delaying things by not doing it, you could always try private??

We had 2 SAs done at the GP before referral to the FS and DH has had a further 2 done there as well - they are more than happy for him to test every 5 months to assess any improvement.

Good luck x

I rang the clinic up this morning and they said that DP would only be invited to give a sperm sample if the doc/nurse practioner thought it was neccessary after reviewing my test results.

So I guess I was worrying about nothing. I've got DP on a schedule though just incase they ask him to provide a sample on the day of our follow up appointment ;-)

I would get one done, read my chart for more info., but basically, long story short, after recurrent m/c and three years trying to get pregnant, numerous tests and surgeries for ME, found out that it is my husband.

Yep i would also get one done - a friend of mine only got tested and due to her PCOS they treated her for that with no test on her hubby - 12 months later they finally did an SA test and he had issues with mobility/morphology which if they'd been found sooner - would have got things moving a lot quicker. Good luck x

Yep, I agree he should get a SA done early on. That's so weird though because our docs are the other way round - they test the man first (only do preliminary blood tests on the woman) because it's much easier and quicker to test the man. If the SA is abnormal then they don't investigate the woman further as they go straight to ivf. Not sure I'm too happy with that, but their thinking is there's no point a woman going through all the HSG/lapdye if ivf is the outcome anyway.

I shall definitely be pushing for a SA on our appointment on 1st Dec.

I've already had him on varoius supplements etc so fingers crossed it's just me and they can at least consider IUI as an option.

I shall keep you posted.

yep defo get1 my bf has had2already just frm my dr! he now being refered to a dr 4him, an with staff shortage, + bein messed about its took 9months...just4 an app with a male fertility dr! Wish u better luck! x

I would definitely push for an SA. It's far less invasive than women's tests. I had bloods done and then wasted more time TTC. Turns out my DH has severe oligospermia. Had we tested him first, we would've known that our only chance was ICSI.

Went for our appointment at St Mary's this morning.

Despite ringing and asking for a SA and being told that DP didn't need one, they have now said that without this we cannot sign the papers and start treatment as they don't know what his sperm is like!

So he's got a pot and we've got a follow up appointment for the end of January.

I feel like we're back to square one again! Hopefully now we're on the right track though.
