Spitting dummy out and sucking thumb.

I don't think you need to worry about it when your LO is this age, but an orthodontist told me that you would want it to stop by the time they turn 3, because it can start to have an effect on adult teeth even at that age. I agree with a PP that said 95% of babies outgrow it by the time they are 1. I heard this also.

My daughter was a thumb sucker until she was 26 months when I helped her drop the habit. Her teeth looked horrible and when she was 25 months I said enough is enough. I had her wear a pair of gloves to bed at night so she couldn't suck her thumb. Then during the day, she would only try to suck it when she was watching tv. So I would turn off the tv if she put her thumb in her mouth and explain that we can't watch tv with a thumb in her mouth. In 2 weeks the habit was gone but I kept her sleeping with gloves at night for a month just to be sure. Her teeth amazingly went perfect within a couple months. I can see before and after pictures of her teeth and they were horrendous before.

Trust me, she will not grow up to be a thumb sucking teenager, ha ha! Do people really still think things like that nowadays? I thought it was only something grandmas thought!

People still think it because it really does still happen, trust me!! Maybe not to anyone you know, but it most certainly does!

God, really? I honestly thought it was some old wife's tale ! maybe my nan knows what she's talking about after all. No harm at this age though, surely? As long as it isn't still a habit later on?
