My 3 year old has a bad splinter in his finger and we cannot get it out.

Does anyone know what I should do!?

Oh no! Poor thing...can you not get drawing ointment (I think that's what it's called) from what I gather it draws things out the skin?? X

or a warm compress on it, may draw it out enough for you to grab the end with some tweezers. my LO had a splinter & she happily let my dad hook it out with a needle. x

We've been trying this all afternoon. It just caused screaming fits :( I'm not sure if it genuinely is painful or if he's being a drama queen but either way he cries every time I even ask to look at it never mind touch it. X

if he wont let you look or touch ide then put sudocrem on & stick a plaster on (tell him its magic & will stop it hurting- let him do the cream if he wont let you) & see if it will work its own way out, just dont let it heal up & get stuck in there.

last resort is to pin him down & try get it out - had to do this to my nephew before, it only took a few seconds. xx

I've always found germolene to be good for splinters. I put a bit on with a plaster on top, let it sink in for a bit. It has local anesthetic in and is antiseptic so hopefully will draw it, stop it stinging and stop it getting infected. How a toddler will handle the magic cream I don't know! But might be worth a try. Maybe he will let you look after the magic cream has done its thing.

I think magnesium sulphate paste (you get in from the chemist) is meant to draw things out - you cover it with a plaster to keep it in place. My mum used to use it on us and it worked fantastically.

Put pressure around the area the splinter is in and it may force it out.

You can also make a baking soda paste. Add water to 1/4th teaspoon of baking soda to make it into a thick paste. Spread the paste onto a band aid, allow the bandage to stay on for 24 hours. When you take the band aid off the splinter should either be poking out of the skin or it should of fallen out.

I hope this helps! :hugs:
