I'm 30 this year and I have never had such a huge issue with spots like I have in the past year. My skin is a mess from it :(
Are these things worth a trip to the doctors? Is there anything they can do?
I would never leave the house without make up on and I am actually dying inside that DH can see me like this :(

It's definitely worth a trip to the GP there is lots they can offer, from something as simple as an antibiotic cream or a course of antibiotics, through to medicated face washes and even referral to a dermatologist. I don't think age makes any difference :)

I wouldn't say my skin is bad, however I just always seem to have the odd 'teenage' spot, like always! I'm 34 now and think come on surely I should be able to rely on my skin by now!

Yes definitely worth a trip to the doctors! I've always had teenage skin and recently cut out dairy and gluten, and it really cleared up. I still have blocked pores and my skin will never be perfect but it's so much better. I can tell when I eat dairy now as I break out within a few days of it.

Absolutely, it's a bit of a nightmare having to go back and forth as I've seen many Drs over the years and they haven't been very good at pinning down what will help (they always just want to push the pill on me which I don't want) I have to say I've noticed a big change in my skin in the last few weeks since being much more religious in using toner and moisturiser as well as double cleansing and by exfoliating twice a week, I had lots of dry patches but it's so smooth now my make up is going on much better. I'm also taking lymecycline anti biotics.

My skin is dreadful. I was on dianette before ttc/pregnancy/breastfeeding which is a contraceptive pill as mine is hormonal. The only time I've had clear skin in the last 5 years has been when I was pregnant with DD.

Dianette was always what they were pushing me to have but I refused, my current GP told me they're being advised to stop prescribing Dianette for acne and that its been banned in some countries due to the side effects, I still have friends on it though so not sure to what extent that recommendation goes. I believe mine is also hormonal, I was fine pregnant and BF.

I am on microgynon and I refuse to take anything else :haha:

I have bad skin, there's never a day when I don't have a breakout! I haven't been to the doctors because I wouldn't class mine as acne so I don't know if they would do anything.
I have recently brought liz earle cleanser and I love it, my skin hasn't completely cleared but my skin is soooo much better and instead of like 10 spots I've only got like 1 or 2. I'd recommend trying it :) I've only been using it for 2 weeks too x

If you're on the pill it is good to look at adjusting it to benefit your skin, I can't remember which way around it is but having a higher dose of either progesterone or oestrogen is much better at preventing acne, I was on one called Marvelon which was pretty good, not as strong as the scary Yasmin and Dianette doctors tried to put me on but I refuse to touch the pill at all now (not due to acne, it's the one thing I did miss it for!) so tbh if you go to the Drs I imagine that's the first thing they would suggest, microgynon is obviously the one they start every woman on but there are ones better for acne that don't mean you have to be put on the contraversial ones, it's just about tweaking the hormone ratios.

What worries me is that I have tried several other pills and none of them helped control my periods, only this one has.

That's understandable, you don't have to fiddle with the pill it'll just be one option, there are topical solutions and tablets they can offer.

Experiment with cutting out certain foods. I can't eat citrus fruits or acidic fruit juices or I get bad spots around my chin and neck. Mud masks are great for clearing up spots. And I use savlon cream every night to really calm spots and take away redness, the combination of the two literally magics spots away sometimes. I'm like wow! Xx

The only thing that has helped me was changing my diet. Lots of veggies (greens) and fruit and eliminating dairy. I never get acne anymore and my face isn't oily at all like it used to be. It's been years since I've gotten more than 2 pimples at the same time (around my period).

My skin has always been bad. Not full blown acne bad, but teenagery. I'm on the mini pill which has helped a bit, but also an antibiotic (lymecyclane) which actually seems to be working now. You can also get topicsl things but I have always found they don't work as well.

I got acne in my late 20s, recently started to use nip and fab glycolic products and they have nearly cleared my acne! The gels that the doctors gave me pretty much peeled my skin and were far too harsh

I'm almost 27 and have severe acne all over due to PCOS. I have a referral to a dermatologist but my doctor gave me epiduo cream. It's very harsh It works by taking layers off your skin. It takes a while to get used to (I wanted to claw my face off for a few weeks) but I think It is helping.

I've had bother with ance for the past 2 years. I've tried just about everything creams gels anti bs from Dr as well as very expensive face wash amd creams non of which have worked. 2 Fridays ago I phoned in my work sick as my face was that bad I was to embarrassed to go to work had a huge boil type spot on my head as well as very dry sore red spots round my nose
If you looked at me right now you'd be amazed it's near enough all gone. My OH got me a face sauna so I've steamed my face twice since I got it 15 mins each time he also got me a face cleanse brush that rotates which I use twice a day it gently buffs away the dry skin
I'm so amazed at how well they have worked and my face is the best it's been in the 2 years I'm only waring bare minerals bb cream to go to work with normally that's just my base and it's concealer on top as well as powder fondation
I would also recommend simple sensitive range which you can only get in boots. I use the face wash with my brush the cleanse water to take make up off and the cream
At night I've been using Palmers cocoa butter formula I'm so impressed with all these products I actually feel confident enough to go into a shop or out with no make up at all which is something I haven't done in the past 2 years xx
