Spotting day after intercourse

Hi everyone! I'm famous for jumping to conclusions so please don't laugh at this! Two nights ago (Monday night), me and my hubby decided to try and make a baby. The next morning, I was spotting. This is the week before I am supposed to start my period though. I don't usually ever spot between periods. I am a little confused as to what this is a sign of. It wasn't rough sex so I don't think the bleeding is from that and its super dark spotting. Definitely need a panty liner but not a full blown period. I am a very impatient person so I do realize I could wait to see if my period starts but I am hoping someone else has experienced this. Thanks so much!!
