Spray Tanning OK While Pregnant?

We are taking a trip to Hawaii with my husband's family in May, and I am wondering how safe spray tanning is while pregnant? I would love to not look like a white sheet lying on the sand, if at all possible.

I called the two local tanning centers that offer spray tanning, and as I imagined the teenagers working there had no idea. My OB's nurse says it's safe as far as she knows, but I'd like to see some information for myself that is 100% sound.

I have never spray tanned before, but I'm interested. Anyone have any info on this? ..or tips?

I worked at a spray tanning salon for a few months last year. We had many pregnant clients. But id def suggest you get tanned a few times before going on your trip to see how your skin takes the color. And it will only last 5 to 7 days. Salt water and pool water makes the tan come off. I would just make sure the tanning solution they use is all natural. Ours was all natural...was basically food coloring made from fruits and such. Spray tans are tricky. Make sure to exfoliate before...clean dry skin, no lotion or deoderant or anything on the skin. And you gotta wait usually 12 hrs to shower. So make sure to plan it the day or so before the trip. Id ask to talk to owner or managers about the product. Good luck mama.

I personally wouldn't spray tan just to be on the safe side, but I don't think it is bad to do? Really not sure.

I go tanning about 2-3 times a week for about 5-7 min. I do it before bed because I find it relaxes me. My doc says there is no risk to the baby as long as I'm not baking for long periods.

I'm not sure about spray tanning but I would just as the dr. directly. You'll get the best information there.

Please dont use any type of spray tan, so many chemicals in them, definately dont put it on your belly.

We are all different & you just might be one of the unlucky ones.

I've asked my OB and he has officially said that tanning in itself is fine, as long as I go for short periods of time - 5 to 10 minutes each visit. He said there haven't been any definitive studies about the effects of the chemicals from spray tanning during pregnancy, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything, just that it hasn't been widely studied. He said the only real danger to the baby is overheating, but from my experience, 5 to 10 minutes with the fan on full blast didn't even make me break a sweat.

EMC0528, I really like your idea of tanning in the evening. For me, tanning is extremely relaxing, and the evening is when I have started having back pain. The heat my help with that, too.
