I don't really understand SSP or my company's sick policy.

We don't seem to have any benefits at all. If you phone in sick, you have 3 days grace and after that, are on SSP. Would that be right?

What if it is maternity-related sickness and you're off for a week? I can't really afford to not be paid if I'm off sick...

Yep, that's how my employers work too

Give you all the info on SSP :)

Wow thats crap!

I've never really been sick in work before but was reading my contract for another issue and only noticed this. I didn't realise that the support for this kindof thing was so bad...

Yep, I had all that shit throughout my pregnancy and it was an f-ing nightmare tbh :(

:hugs: for you xxx

I had 2 weeks off work when I was pregnant that was maternity / pregnancy related and needed a sick note.

After 2 weeks off, I couldn't do my job anymore and had another sick note but they started my maternity pay the day I left.

Most companies let you self cert for the 1st 3 days, then after that you need a sick note. payment is diff in each company but that sounds about right what you are saying hun, shit init , x

Yup, stupidly common :/

If you are in receipt of Tax credits - don't forget you get approx 39p extra in tax credits (up to your total award) for every pound (over the threshold) which you don't earn.

Bit convoluted, but takes 39% of the 'ouch' out of any missed wages.

Unfortunately for most companies that sounds about right. I'm lucky, I get full pay while off sick xx
