started provera today!

Hello ladies !
I usually have 200+ day cycles! very irregular and my obgyn prescribed provera and I started taking it today!!
anyone else taken it and had luck falling pregnant or any tips or side effects? thanks so much God bless!!

Hi I just picked up my rx of Provera today but have not taken any yet...I am working on researching it more and getting ppls feed back. Plus this might sound silly but I am a Full Time Nursing Student and I am so afraid the first period will be a really bad one!! I have been off BCP since July and haven't had a period yet so I am nervous what to expect. I read some of your past entries about weight loss and that is where I am to! I would love to stay in touch it seems we are traveling similar paths. Good LUCK!

Thats where I was! i got off birth control Oct 2011 and i didnt have a period until july 2012!! so my dr said that the reason im not ovulating right is because the lining isnt cleared yet. aka my period in july wasnt heavy enough.

So im scared for that too! haha but hey it might get you on track and regular cycles!!
and as for weight loss.. yea thats not a strong suit of mine how about you ? have you had any luck?`

Hello! I have lost a few pounds then gained them back so not really doing so well in that dept. Although this past Sunday I have renewed my vow to lose wait and been pretty good (although quite hungry) all week ha ha my plan is to weigh myself only once a week so I will let you know on Sunday how I did!! From all I have read and heard about the Provera it doesn't seem like the first period is going to be so bad so I plan on staring it this weekend Well I am off to school have a great day!!!

So i heard of pairing provera and taking soy iso. to help ovulate. have you heard of that? i feel like if two cycles helped with provera, if i dont concieve then ill try that !

School can be fun but today was just stressful! We are preparing for our end of the semester nursing comps and everyone was very cranky so glad to be home in my pjs! What are you studying?

I have read on bnb about the soy but haven't done any further research. I am very interested in natural herbal remedies and there is a local Herb Store in my hometown and the guy who owns it is very knowledgeable. I was going to go ask him about what he recommends ill ask about soy while I am there.

Well off to complete homework and get uniforms ironed for clinical time! Praying God blesses us with being mommies soon!!

I am taking Provera as well. I am taking the 10 days dose, on day 8 now. i am taking it to induce AF, ya my periods kind of went on vacation and never came back,, lol! Probably once a year. Also was dx with pcos, ouff!
Side effects on provera...terrible cramping and nausea!!
Anyway, I want to induce AF so I have somewhere to start counting my cycle since I am gonna start soy isoflavones this cycle, (have read so much about it) to induce ovulation so i get my BFP. Fingures crosses!

Note, Provera doesn't make you ovulate, it just induces AF.

no i havent been dx with pcos. maybe ill mention that when i go back in 3 months to see her

Hello! so glad you joined I have some questions about Provera if you don't mind! Is there your first time on it? Does it make AF really bad? Also after one dose does it really make your AF come back or is dependent on person? At first I thought it made you ovulate but after some research I realized it just makes you shed lining to uterus then saw your comment to. Thanks and good luck! Blessings!

This is my 2nd time using it, first time was Nov last year, ''making AF really bad'', if you mean bad cramps, i wouldn't say for sure, personally i have always had bad periods, the worst of any kind, heavy, long and painful!
As for Provera making your periods come back after 1st dose, i do not know, maybe depends on person, maybe not, atleast for me it did not, just like BCP didn't regulate AF after i stopped taking them.

Yes, provera just brings on AF, not ovulation, you are right on that. I learned that from my obygn when i told her that i wanted to stop BCP but still get AF since we are TTC. So she suggested Provera bcoz i rarely get AF on my own.

Update; finished last pill provera yesterday, so waiting for AF which might show up 3 - 5 days from today.

hey i got a problem!!
provera was supposed to be used for 7 days.
Some how i only took it for 6 days instead of 7! like i think I double dosed over the weekend! I had my wisdom teeth removed and was on so many meds!
So will this effect when AF will come? or will she come in 3-5 days?

Hi Stezbarn,

Thank you for the info it helps. I am now having to wait to start my provera until after my pelvic ultrasound on Thursday as that is what the dr wants but first thing Friday morning I will be taking the first one can't wait!!!

One more question do you take a HPT before you start it? Someone suggested it to me because if you are pregnant and take Provera it will end the pregnancy as the point of Provera is to shed uterus lining... Husband and I have been bd without protection so chance is always there (although a very very slim one) your thoughts?

I looked it up in my med book and all it says is don't double dose but not why. Did you call your dr?

No i didnt call my doctor. Im assuming it will be okay i chance it !

and my doctor told me that if i am pregnant that i just wont bleed and that it issafe to the baby!
so if you dont bleed with in 10 days of stopping it you might be pregnant

Oh ya! That's right about taking a HPT before starting on provera. It says somewhere i think on that leaflet inside the box the medicine comes in.
I took a HPT even though i knew there was a very slim chance that i would be pregnant but again you never know!!
So yes, you should take the HPT before starting the pills... if you don't and take the pills anyway and AF doesn't show up within 5 - 10 days, then chances of being preggas are high, about it ending a pregnancy, i don't know about that, i guess that's why it's best to do a HPT.

Hello Thank you! Guess I better dig out the HPT test dust them off and see if they are still good! It has really hit me today I am taking the first step to trying again...very excited and kinda scared!
