I do something similar to slim fast, still a milkshake but an alternative brand (works out cheaper than slim fast but does the same thing). I only do it once a day because I love food and I don't want to completely rely on it plus I want it to be easy to come off it when I need to. I've lost nearly 5lb in 4 weeks so although I'm not losing weight faster than usual (which is good!) it's keeping me going.
My mum did herbalife (similar to slimfast but a billion times more expensive) and she lost loooooaaaadddddssss.
I do think slim fast does have a lot of sugar in it though - the one I have only had 7g per serving whereas I believe slimfast has near on 30g. Other than that it's pretty good but not a quick fix - you have to learn to eat right when you come off it because you'll just end up back where you were.
