We do the cold water sterilising, so wash up and put the bottles as soon as we have used them, the water lasts 24 hours, and we replace it after dinner every night
I do it twice a day.... once first thing. I do enough bottles until bedtime. Then once he's in bed I do the batch for night time and one ready for morning
BY with cold water sterilising is it still sterile once is has been opened and u take something out? I always do it that once opened it is no longer sterile? Perhaps i am wasting tablets
yep we've had a routine with them since she was new born really, and still do, even though we're down to 2/3 bottles a day.
our routine is - in the morning, as part of my daily kitchen clean routine, i wash enough bottle's for the next day and leave them. when maddi's having dinner, i stick them in the steriliser (used to use both a cold water one plus the avent iq one, but just use cold water now as she's not having many bottles) and then before we go to bed my OH makes them up with just boiled water and i add the powder when needed the following day
lucy - it's sterile for 24hours, even when you open it i believe
I get all her bottles washed and ready between lunch and dinner.
Just before I dish up dinner I put the steriliser on and boil the kettle.
By time we've had dinner, the water's cooled slightly and the steriliser has finished so I either do it right before or right after washing up.
I was under the impression you can take things in and out of a cold water steriliser as long as the tablets are still in effect i.e. for 24 hours. My hubby does homebrew and his stuff is like this too.
We do 2 batches of sterilising - 1 in a morning and 1 in an evening. I tend to was the bottles that we have used as I'm doing the washing up, take out the ones currently in the steriliser and rinse and replace them with the non-sterilised ones. I'll then make up the feeds. (I've been out and bought 3 more bottles today so I tend to do 2 batches of 4 at a time. (which normally lasts us either a daytime or nighttime. I also replce the water on an evening (more awake lol)
I certainly do have a routine! Steriliser runs twice a day, 3 bottles at a time. Once in the morning, for her 11am, 3pm and water bottle. (she hasn't got the hang of a cup yet) Then in the evening for her 7pm, 11pm dreamfeed, and 7am bottle. Bottles are kept in the fridge.
I sterilise one bottle before each feed and make it up once he is ready to be fed, as I wasn't sure about preparing bottles or water in advance.
Seems like I must be sterilising loads though, as it's on about 6 times a day! I've been thinking of getting either a cold water steriliser or the Avent IQ one to save time....
I use a cold water steriliser and change the water every morning when I make her bottles for the day. When I have washed up her bottle, I just add it into the solution so its all ready to make up her bottles the next day
It depends on the tablets/liquid you're using. I think Milton is ok to use straight up. I have tablets from Asda and you have to rinse them off as they are very chlorine-y (smells like a swimming pool). I would check the product you're using.
I normally do two rounds of sterilising in the morning and one at night.
I now use the Dr Browns bottle which are great but an absolute faff to clean and sterilise because there is so many parts to the bottle and they're quite big. Originally I was using Tommee Tippee bottles and I have the microwave/cold water steriliser and I was just using it as a cold water steriliser.
I now have the Dr Browns steriliser which is just a microwave one, so in the morning I wash up the bottles from the evening and dummies from the day before and I use the microwave to sterilise 4 bottles which I make up. With Dr Browns you can get travel caps which is what I pop on them to store them in the fridge. The extra bits, teats, lids and the vents/funnels etc I put in the cold water steriliser and I can just take those out during the day after the bottle is heated a bit (this was easiest because if you heat these bottles with the teat etc on they leak.
I normally end up doing another little bottle (for water) and the dummies after that. In the evening I do another 2 bottles to take to bed for his night feed and first morning feed.
