sterioid injection - 30 weeks

Hello, I had cervical funneling at week 30 and was admited to the hospital for risk of pre-term labour. I had 2 steriod injections 24 hours apart and went on bed rest for few weeks. The funneling closed back up and currently I made it to 37th week.

Few days ago, I started to worry about the steroid shots because I don't know what are the long term effect of the single does of steriods have on my baby. Will she develop to be a normal child or will there be some side effects that will affect her in the long run (e.g brain, body development?). This is my first child and I felt extremely guilty of not taking better care of her b/c the cervix funneling wouldn't have happen if I hadn't over worked. pls advice. Experiences from other moms who had steriod shots but also went full term would be useful. Thank you!!!

i had 2 steroid shots at 32 weeks, and J was born at 36+6 weeks so very nearly term. The steroids dont effect baby in any way other than to mature the lungs

steroids are fine, dont worry at all. they would have been vital had you delivered at 30 weeks and no clinician would not give them with that sequence of events. to have any side effects at all would be incredibly rare. We all want to have perfect pregnancies without taking anything, not even paracetamol, but it is always balance of risk and you had the appropriate treatment. Dont be too hard on yourself. funnelling happens for lots of reasons and you have made it so far. Well done!

My little girl was born at 29 weeks gestation 5 years ago due to severe PET, the doctors managed to get 2 doses of steriods in me to mature her lungs...those jabs are a miracle and make all the difference to a preemie baby.

She is now 5 years old and has not suffered in any way, shape or form, and has no developmental issues, please let me assure you they do not harm the baby, what they do do is make their journey and fight a little easier on them.
