Hi

So I've gained 12.5lb already.

I lost 5 stone to get ivf so we could get our baby. It's hard to see me gaining so much

For some reason though, I just keep being naughty. I really try to eat clean then I get home from work and ear the wrong things.

Now old habits are creeping in and I feel I'm getting back into the vicious circle of comfort eating, stressing about it feeling upset and then starting it over again.

I really want to try and not gain any more then 25lb total. So I have 12.5lb allowance for the remainder of my pregnancy.

If I clean eat and maintain my excercise is this possible? I just don't want to feel like this anymore.

That's not an insane amount of weight at all. I think the secret is to concentrate on what you eat and not your weight in and of itself. As long as you are getting balanced nutrition then baby will be getting what they need and at this point that is all that matters. I spent my first pregnancy obsessed with my weight. I gained 25lb exactly but obsessing about it probably wasn't healthy. I'm way more chilled about it this time but I'm probably going to get told off because I'm -5lb, but I know I'm eating well and getting enough calories.

What about setting a goal for yourself for after the baby is born, like a running race or a swimming race or a yoga-thon or whatever it is that you like doing. I started this pregnancy 10 lbs heavier than I've ever been in my life (a product of changing from an active job to a desk job followed by a month long vacation in Mexico!). I've never been weight conscious before, and even when I gained a bit a few months ago I wasn't too worried because I knew I could get rid of it. Well now I can't, and I'm going to put on more, and it is really stressing me out. I've signed up for a race 7 months after the baby is born so now when I get weighed at the doctor I am still pretty surprised to see the number on the scale, but I just think to myself "no biggie, I'll lose it no problem when I'm training for the race".

When you are stressed out, what about going for a walk or getting some light exercise instead? I know that when I do physical activity I feel better and am more likely to make healthy food choices. But when I am sedentary it is so much easier to reach for the snacks and bad food.

You've lost the weight before, there's no reason why you can't lose it again after the baby is born, so try not to worry too much. And don't beat yourself up over some bad food choices, you're pregnant for goodness sake, you can't fight all the cravings and be good all the time (I say as I stuff a fourth marshmallow into my mouth!).

Yes I think your right. Gonna deffo set a goal. I'm gonna look at events today .
Thanks for that what a good idea x

If I was you I wouldn't be too concerned about the weight gain itself, as that doesn't seem too bad to me, rather that the old habits are creeping back in. Do you find it difficult to stay motivated now that you've achieved the goal of pregnancy? I think it's important you have a look at why the habits are coming back as 5 stone is a huge amount to lose and I'm not saying you're going to put it back on but you wouldn't want to its such an achievement.

Yes, I think as I have been so strict to lose the weight I am relaxing a little too much and saying yes to things more and more. I think I an going to try and eat clean and have my Saturdays nights as my cheat night. That's what I did to lose the weight. Least then on a Saturday night I get to eat what I'm craving.

Focused today had porridge and bluberries for breakfast.
Just had a snack of strawberries and apple for my break.
Chicken salad for lunch and I plan to have chciken, cabbage carrots and broccoli for tea. X

I'm only 15+1 and I'm up a stone ! It's worrying but honestly I think you can't control what your baby wants and if your baby wants chocolate sauce on chips eat it ! It doesn't matter ! I will work hard and get it all off after but this is baby number four and ive been pregnant 5 times every time I've gained roughly 3 stone but I'm back in my skinny jeans after a month of having them , don't forget a lot of it is fluid and baby , that counts for atleast like 20 pounds so don't worry , too much some people retain allot of water I know I do , just wait until you've had baby then panic drink a shed load of water and you'll be fine ! X

Thank you.

Your right I need to stress less and go with the flow x

I've gained a total of 25lbs so far (possibly a little bit more), but I started slightly underweight. I gained the majority of my weight during the second trimester (like 7lbs in 4 weeks!). Now, I'm only gaining about half of a pound to 1 pound between my 2 week visits, sometimes less. I was panicking over my weight gain during the second trimester, so I get where you're coming from. I've been told my numerous people that most women lose up to 20 pounds the first month or two after giving birth, sometimes more if you're breastfeeding. Just take care of yourself and you'll be okay!

Thanks. That makes me feel better.
Yes I gained 8lb in 7 weeks. Hopefully it will slow a little in 3rd trimester.

For being 21 weeks pregnant, 12lb sounds perfect! I'm 19 weeks and I've gained 10 and from what I can google that's pretty standard if you're aiminf to gain 25 odd lbs. don't beat yourself up so bad, you're doing great :hugs:

You just made me feel better as I've gained the same amount as you and I'll be 19 weeks in 3 days. I remembered with DS I gained a majority in 2nd tri and at some appointments gained nothing in 3rd tri, but couldn't remember if it was that fast. :haha:

Girl, I feel your pain! I was doing OK until May rolled around and people gave me tons of chocolates for Mother's Day and my birthday and I finally gave in to everyone's telling me "oh you're pregnant, it's OK! Indulge!!!".... STUPID OF ME!! I had only gained 11 lbs the first 5 months and then come May and all the treats and me letting loose a bit... I put on 12 lbs in 4 weeks :( I was so devastated at the doctor I was bawling lol And now that I went a month indulging like a pig I am finding it REALLY hard to break that cycle :( I'm 27+3 and I feel fatter every day!!! :(

Aww!! It so easy isn't it to give in and over indulge. I wouldnt mind if it didn't make me feel so bad afterwards. It does it makes me feel guilty and gross.
I have heard weigh gain slows down In 3rd trimester.
I'm just taking it a day at a time. Trying to have a little of what I want now within reason . X

We're supposed to gain 1lb a week now aren't we? From 20 weeks at least so I'm told! x
