Have never been in tgis position before but unions are striking on 10th of july and I agree with the cause and feel I should be out too however I know the head will not be happy and I feel bad letting my class down. Does anyone have any advice?

Personally if you are in the union I feel you should strike, especially if you agree with why. I am in the union and although I cannot afford to lose the money I will still be out I just can't bring myself to cross the picket line.

If you agree with why we are striking, then you have to think we cwn only change things by standing together.

That said its all down to the individual choice.

I don't think you'd be letting your class down. You'd be standing up for your profession and through that you're standing up for the kids. One day or even a week isn't much to the kids but if you don't stand up for what you think is right, things won't change for the better and that will lead to a worse education system.

I think even if you don't agree with a particular strike, if you're a member of a union that is striking it's your responsibility to strike or leave the union. If it was something you cared about deeply, you wouldn't want other teachers deciding to cross the picket line - a union is about standing together and you may as well leave it if you won't do that.

I'm not a teacher but I fully support teachers striking - what's good for them is good for the kids. Two of my sisters are teachers, one would strike and the other probably wouldn't - she got some stick for that last time!

I'm in the educational profession and this idea that many teachers have able letting the class down just seems silly to me. It's one day off, the kids don't care, they get someone different for the day and it's not going to have an impact on their progress. Teachers have had it drummed into them that every second wasted in class means that the teacher is personally failing each child.

Step back, see the bigger picture and stand up for your rights. Your head will have experienced staff striking before, we've had enough strikes in the recent past. If they are funny with you, remind them off your legal right to strike.
