Hi ladies, i need a bit of an opinion. All through the pregnancy we had pretty much settled on a name but agreed not to call bump by it incase we changed our minds.
I still love the name but it is very popular and we have quite a few people (and pets!) around us that have the name!
Hubby recently suggested a name that has meaning in his family and I like that aspect of it, particularly as bubs middle name is of a high significance in my family, (plus the 3 initials would almost spell the name which is kinda cool in a geeky way :haha:) however I don't actually like the name! I've been trying to think of nicknames that would work but I don't like any of them either!

So my question:
push for the name that we've liked all along but has quite a few around us (though not people in our family or who we see often but socialise with on my MIL side occasionally)

Or

Agree to hubby's choice that I like the idea of more so than the name itself?

Oh and before suggesting that we refer to bubs by the middle name that wouldn't work! ;)

Thanks in advance for any opinions or suggestions xx

For my children, I had a shortlist of three names and didn't decide for definite until they were born as I believe a name should suit a child and you can see by looking at them whether it'll suit. So you coukd do that and wait.

But theoretically, I'd never go for a name that had meaning if I really didn't like it.

On the other hand, a popular name wouldn't sit well with me either.

So - back to my first suggestion! See what name suits best after the birth.

Edited to add - that might seem like leaving it till the last minute, but I just KNEW what names were right for my children when I looked into their faces.

I kind of agree with Delphine.

I wouldn't want a common name, but I wouldn't want to give my child a name I didn't like (love, really) either.

If you really like the common name, and won't mind that he'll probably have four other boys with his same name in class with him, I'd probably go for that. A name that you love is important. I think you might regret if you go for one you don't really like.

Thanks for your replies. Its weird the more I think about it the more the name is growing on me but I still prefer our first choice!
I think I will have to wait and see what bubba looks like as suggested.

I would definitely not use a name you don't really like much, I would try and go with your first choice x
