My 7 week old has issues breathing at night flat on his back in his bassinet. I put him down he sleeps and an hour later he is struggling. I take him out and he starts to breathe well enough to fall back asleep.

Tonight I am not even trying saline drops which will let him sleep in the bassinet max. 3 hours because they will wake him up and it is 1am here and this is my fith night dealing with this . I am just putting him in his lounger which has a minor incline and unfortunately a bit of padding. He is at least able to breathe without me bed sharing with him with my arm elevating his head.

I'm pretty sure my baby is close to sleeping through the night but can't because he wakes every few hours unable to breathe. I am mostly venting. I was told not to take him to the doctor until he has been like this for a week.

He does fine all day it is just at night and in his bassinet he has a real problem. He has his stuffy moments throughout the day but it is really minor. We have tried humidifying the room. It can feel like a jungle in there and he still has issues.

Sorry for the long ramble. Anyone else been through this? Is it likely a cold? His nana had one and spent time with him. He coughs once in awhile too. He has no other signs though.

Babies are stuffy little things!

My youngest has had a constant stuffy and streaming nose from day one. It's a combination of seasonal illnesses and small nasal passages

How did he sleep in his lounger?have you tried raising the head of his bassinet with books?

When both my boys were in the crib we had it on books at one end, it was on an incline of about 20 degrees, why they don't just make them with a sloping base I have no idea!

DS2 is now 6 months and has another cold, although he's now bigger to be able to deal with it and sleep through it

Just keep doing what you're doing and it'll get easier :)

We've had hellish nights with ds and his stuffy nose. What worked for us was saline drops before his feed to let them work, used aspirator after feed, snuffle babe on feet, neck and back and also put a wet flannel on the radiator with olbad oil on it. He still wakes with the most disgusting nose every day but now he can sleep without waking xxx

DD2 was terribly stuffy at the start, she's now 3 and a half months and much less so. I use saline drops, olbas oil on a tissue in the room and I put books under the legs of the crib to elevate one end so she was sleeping on an angle.

He sleeps a bit better in the lounger. He slept 5 hours straight. The first two hours were in his bassinet, but I could hear him struggling and starting to fuss so I moved him into the lounger. He still had some problems after though . For some reason there is no issue in it during the day.

He got salined twice, much to his displeasure. I just hate how it wakes him up and am afraid it will contribute to him getting his days and nights mixed up. The saline doesn't seem to work for too long, but I don't think I have the hang of giving it to him yet. I don't notice it draining from his nose when I turn him onto his tummy, which makes me worry a bit about where it is going.

I did elevate his bassinet, but perhaps not enough. Just glad to know I am not alone. I am a first time mom and I am finding the feeling of worry about his health overwhelming. I don't get a lot of support from my husband in the middle of the night either, but he has to work in the morning. He did come down however tonight when the baby was crying. He seemed pissy about it though.

The saline will be going, along with the loosened mucous, down his throat and into his stomach. It won't hurt him.

When it drips down his throat, though, this might be what is triggering the cough.

It may be a good idea to suction his nose after administering the saline to get it all out, rather than having it run into his throat and irritate him.
