Those of you that have had yeast infections while pregnant - I have a question. I'm on canesten right now, the cream that you put inside the vagina. I've done 2 treatments and it seems to be more burning/itchy now and I think that might be because all the gunk is coming out. I'm just curious, if this doesn't work is there another cream I can take thats pregnancy safe to get rid of it, something the doctor would prescribe? I'm gonna call my doctor on Thursday if it hasn't improved by then. I've even cut out all the sugary stuff in my diet because I know yeast loves sugar. Any responses or ideas are grateful. Thanks

It has been recommended to try a warm bath with vinegar in it to help along with the yeast cream.

really, because having frequent baths is what can cause it to get worse so i steer away from baths unless i am shaving my legs or something. and i was told never to have vinegar/douche like stuff near that area. its really raw so i think the vinegar would burn it worse.

my doctor put me on Monistat 3 you have like an applicator with another horse's type looking pill, comes with cream for itch and wipes..I did not even know I had it.

i know i have it. and it sucks its really severe with tons of swelling and redness. im on canesten 6.

that sounds kind of severe maybe you should see him again to make sure you dont have any other types of infections like Uti or something?

I would try taking acidophilus. I had a very itchy yeast infection and after taking acidophilus for a few days it subsided, and now it is totally gone. My dr told me to apply greek yogurt as a cream, but I couldn't bring myself to do it!

As for the vinegar...I have done it before, it totally works. Run a bath just deep enough that you cover the affected area, and have it just lukewarm or cool. Add a cup or so of vinegar and just sit in there for 15 minutes...don't try to wash yourself or anything, just sit there. The ph of the vinegar neutralizes the yeast. I've done it before and it works, but I now find acidophilus works best for me.

Oh, also I should mention that yeast infections will take longer to cure while pregnant, as the hormone imbalances tend to feed the yeast. So don't be discouraged if it takes a few days longer than you expect for the canesten or whatever treatment you use to work.

I dont have a UTI I was already swabbed for the yeast, its a yeast infection. I was also tested for UTI/kidney infection and its negative. Thanks for the info ceejie. I'm on canesten and she said if it doesnt go away to call her and i will have to get something else. I was going to start taking my probiotic pills tomorrow. they have 50 billion live cultures in it and motherisk told me its safe to take.

I'll tell you what works for me and it's 100% baby safe and was recommended by my mom - baking soda! 1 tsp to a cup of warm water and after taking a shower just wash yourself down there with it. Works wonders. I'm dealing with stupid yeast infections ever since I got pregnant so it really helps

Interesting. Maybe I will look into that. I have heard that baking soda is good for them too. From what I'm reading pregnant women get yeast infections alot because of the high estrogen imbalance, along with more sugars in there. So I'm starting to cut out added sugars from my diet until I get this under control because yeast thrives in sugary environment. It's really hard to do it but I gotta. I need some foods that are low in sugar!

Aww I hope it helps you! I went off sugar since I've been preggo only because it tastes gross to me but my yeast infection only gets under control if I use baking soda regardless if I eat sugar or not - I stopped using baking soda for a few days because it looked like it was gone and bam! I got it back so now I'm using baking soda and will do so probably for a while and so far so good :)

I suffer with yeast infections all the time due to my endometriosis. I take regular probiotics, 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar in half a cup of water daily, this helps to alkalise your system and kill the candida. Dactarin or miconazole cream is also useful externally for the itch, its stronger than canestan. Best of all, minimize your consumption of sugar and it should settle down. Hope this helps.

Yes.. talk to your doctor.. i hate over the counter stuff it burns like hell! I got a yeast infection with my first pregnancy and my doc gave me medicine I think it was only one pill or something like that I was very skeptical but it worked with out going thru all the burning process. and one time after taking medication for bladder infection I got a yeast infection ( related apparently) and my doc prescribed me a cream and I thought it was going to burn but it didn't at all and was really good.

miconazole is not safe to take according to safefetus.com. there was fetal damage when used on animals while they were pregnant so i am not taking that risk. thanks for the info though! i may just get a cream from my doctor. i started taking my acidophilus supplement today, called motherisk and was told it's safe and beneficial. i have also cut down my sugar intake, and i *think* it has been helping. and you aren't supposed to take anything orally for a yeast infection while pregnant which is why i haven't taken anything other than this cream. i will see if my doc can prescribe me a cream, i'm gonna call them on thursday. thanks everyone!

Megangrohl, I mean the cream only externally for the itch. No antifungals are safe taken orally that I'm aware of.

Canesten is, according to safefetus. I live by this website, and it's completely safe. And it's going away now thank god. Thanks.

It really is horrible. I finished my treatment and it helped alot but the infection is still here. So now I have to wait for a call back from my doctor and see what they are gonna do. lol good freeking times! I talked to my mom and she said she had a yeast infection every 3 weeks when she was pregnant with me. I think I'm having the same pregnancy she had when she was preggo with me! The same morning sickness and the same yeast infection and mood swings so far. lol
