Hi ladies,
I am on my third pregnancy and found out a few weeks ago I have an SCH. I had a pretty big bleed at 12w4d and was told all the blood was "old" blood. I have not had any major bleeding since (am 15 weeks tomorrow). I have had some very brown spotting and a few small clots. They did not tell me the size of my clot, just said it was small, but when I saw my OB today, she said that it was 15-20% of my placenta! Does this seem rather big to anyone else? Does anyone have any stories to share? I have been on bed rest since my first bleed, and expect to be for the rest of my pregnancy. I have had two previous miscarriages, first was also due to an SCH at 16 weeks and second was pPROM at 20 weeks. I would love any feedback anyone has! I am desperate to keep this baby cooking.

Hey Hun, there's an SCH thread in the Pregnancy Groups section with lots of helpful ladies. I had one, diagnosed at 6w6d and it grew to the same size as the sac...so much bigger than my placenta. Yours doesn't sound big to me. Sending lots of hugs!

Thank you so much! I will head over to find it :)

ETA: I cant seem to find it? Any chance you have a link for it?

Hey hun, I'm going through similar, I have a huge SCH, now a chronic placental abruption at 21 weeks. Been bleeding for 9 weeks now and have 4 previous preemies as well as already been battling preterm labour and shortening cervix. I wouldnt have thought a small SCH would strip that much of the placenta, can you get in with perinatology to get a clear look? Often its hard to get the right view without an indepth scan, mine is clearer on internal too.

Bedrest sucks but it works. Drink as much water as you can and plenty resting on the left side, dont lift or do chores, have sex etc. I'm on the progesterone shots again, they started at 16 weeks, would be worth an ask to your OB:thumbup: My plan is strict bedrest then steroids and hospital if get to 23 weeks:thumbup: Big hugs hun, such a stressful time:hugs::hugs:

Thank you :) I have never had a bright red bleed, all of my bleeding has been dark and old. Even my big, original bleed was dark and old. I have been having occasional bouts of dark spotting and small clots. They never measured it on my last ultrasound, because it wasnt on the orders, but it was never mentioned at all, even though I told the u/s tech about it. My next ultrasound is on the 18th. Lucky for me, I get a scan every other week because they are monitoring my cervix, because they have no idea what caused my pPROM. So far, my cervix looks great. Hopefully it stays that way.

Hi there-

I also was diagnosed with SCH at the same time & here I am at almost 29 weeks with a healthy baby boy. I think we were 12w 3d when I had the 1st of two 2 big bleeding episodes with bright red blood and large clots. After each episode, bleeding continued and then tapered off after a week. During this whole time, I was 1cm dilated.

After the second bleed, I also had contractions. We called the overnight on call doctor, who told me I was miscarrying. We were devastated and spent the next 2 weeks waiting for it to happen....and it never did!!!! We had a few follow-up ultrasounds and by our 18 week scan, the SCH was gone. A nurse told me at a follow up appointment, that the uterus can contract because the bleeding irritates it and it could be just a clot working its way out.

I was so angry that the doc told us we were losing the baby when my baby was perfectly fine. My body has gone through a lot in this pregnancy but at every scan and test, we've found that the baby is doing perfectly and has been completely unaffected by all of this.

Here are two threads I posted after the 1st bleed looking for positive outcomes. There are some good stories here. Best of luck to you!

Hunnytot, old blood is better than red blood:thumbup: I hope your cervix stays good, I had pprom twice, both times with no cervix change also, very scary:hugs: Let us know what they say at your appointment next week:hugs:

Myra, congrats on your little boy:baby: The big bleeds are so scary so are the appointments where they tell you its 50/50 or worse :(:hugs: So glad your hematoma healed, I was told most do heal by 20 weeks:thumbup:

Hi ladies, small update. I had a couple of gushes of brownish fluid and freaked out. Went into ER thinking it was my water breaking. Thank god it wasnt! They did an ultrasound and saw the sch still, but said is seems small and was resolving. They said that maybe a clot burst or something and that is where the gush came from. I am now back home and in bed :) next appointment ans ultrasound on the 18th

Hey ladies, thought I would check in again and see how everyone is doing. As of my last ultrasound, there is no sign of the SCH and everything appears to be going well! I hope all of you have news that is just as good :)

Thank you for this thread hunneytot. It turns out that I have the same thing (9w4d). I'm currently on bed rest taking lots of progesterone tablets. My next scan is on Thursday. I now only have brown blood, but only when I wipe. Fingers crossed for everyone!

Hi there! Sorry to hear that you are having complications. I honestly feel like bed rest was a huge part of healing faster :) Have they done any ultrasounds or told you any sizes? I had quite a few to check, and everything healed up nicely fairly quick, and not a trace left behind :) When will you see your doctor again?

Eta: I see now you said Thursday is your next scan (me too!!) Let me know how it goes! :)

Hi, how are you? I had my scan today and all looks perfect :) I still need to take progesterone pills until the end of the month and that's when I'm going to have another check-up. Hope all is well with you.

So glad its all going well! What a relief :) Mine went ok. My cervix is showing signs of funneling, but is still measuring at around 3.2. They told me no worries unless it gets below 2.5, but she doesnt think it will. Just more ultrasounds for me! I love seeing him every other week lol. Are they going to continue to monitor you?
