Hey ladies

DD's been in nursery since she was 6 months and settled in fine - she's now 11 months and never had any issues before.

The last 1-2 weeks she's been teething and also crawling, she's been more clingy at home but if she can see me around she's generally fine - however nursery drop offs have suddenly become horrible and a couple of times she's been crying at pick up too. I hung around (out of sight) this morning and she was still crying 5 mins later. I'm mortified and upset. I called to ask how she was - she'd been upset for most of the morning but was napping.

I guess i'm just surprised, she goes there 3x a week and as I say has always loved it - I just don't know where this sudden upset has come from. She's even clingy and upset before we get there in the mornings. She gets upset when i'm doing my hair, putting jacket on etc.

The only things I can think are teething, late seperation anxiety onset, crawling made her more clingy, and her key workers (who she loves) doesn't seem to be around as much the last few weeks.

Sorry for the essay! But has anyone else experienced this before? A baby settling in fine then getting upset again later on? Did it pass? Is there anything I can do to help her?

It's so upsetting!

Hugs

From an experienced mum of a now 3yo preschooler it will pass, and then happen again and then pass... Etc

I've lost count how many times we've been unsettled at drop off and LO has been going since he was 10 months, it's normally developmental changes or a new kid that unsettles him but he's then back to his happy self in no time.

My advice would be to keep your drop off routine the same regardless of unsettledness, I found if I changes how I dropped him off when he wasn't too happy this often made him worst. Don't get me wrong there have been days I've left and then burst into tears but we've always come through the other side, I hope this phase doesn't last long for you :)

My DS isn't at nursery, but is watched by family. He goes through stages where he is fine, and others where he is very distressed when I leave him (usually after I have some time off with him!). I'm off all over the summer, but he will go to nursery after that, which I am dreading, so I'll be stalking for tips!
