On Wednesday morning, Feb 8th, I had my weekly prenatal appt. My ankles were swollen but I had no other signs than tons of BHs. Dr checked and I was 70% effaced, not dilated and my cervix was really high. Baby was head down but not headed out any time soon.
I went home and got off my feet due to the swelling. Around 6:45 pm, I got off the phone from a stressful call and went to the bathroom. My water broke on the toilet. I woke up my husband (he works nights) and started packing a bag for our other child to go to a friend's until grandma arrived. We called the hospital and they asked us to come in within 30 minutes to check for a prolapsed cord when waters break.
Got to the hospital at 8 pm and my contractions were 5 minutes apart and hard. Was checked and was 3-4 cm but still very high cervix. I opted for pain relief this time and was given an intrathecal - like an epidural but can still walk/move. Had a lot of relief and was able to relax until about 9:30 pm. Started feeling really strong pressure in my back from the contractions. The nurse suggested a hot bath. Was checked prior to going in and was at 5 cm. I got in the tub at 10:00 pm. My mom arrived at 11:15 pm with my daughter and was saying goodnight to us and wish us luck. When she came in, I started having contractions every minute and felt like I had to push. The nurses couldn't believe it.
Was taken out of the tub and put on the bed quickly. Checked by nurse and was found to be fully dilated with baby pushing down! WHAT?! Dr literally ran into the room. I was in so much pain from the quick pace of the last hour that I began to panic and close my legs.
Dr. and nurse were shouting to push and Connor came shooting out after 2 pushes. Doctor told us later that he literally caught him. He was born at 11:40 pm on Feb. 8th under the full moon, 7 lbs 7 oz.
Baby had a loose knot in his cord and looked great. Within about 30 minutes of his birth, his breathing rapidly degressed. By the time our little guy was 8 hours old, he was being lifeflighted by helicopter to the nearest NICU, where we are currently staying. After a full week here, he is finally around the bend and looking to come home in the next couple of days.
