It says on the website you can claim if you recieve Child Tax Credit at a higher rate than family element. I have no clue about family elements or anything. Can someone explain?
if you get over £546 you are at a higher rate and should get the sure start grant
If you only get the basic £545 plus the extra £50 a month new baby allowance, you dont qualify for the sure start grant. You have to get more than the family element to qualify for it (baby element is classed as family element as everybody earning under £50k gets this).
From what I understand as long as you are getting some amount of "child" element on top of your "family" element and "baby" element then you are entitled. It will say which elements you get on your tax credits award notice. I double checked and phoned the tax credits helpline, and they told me what elements I was getting.
To get the grant you have to have a basic family element of £548, i was getting £547.50 before i had my baby so wouldn't have gotten it so i waited till after i had her and family element increased then applied for it (you get 3 months after the baby is born to apply).
I really dont understand this lol. If I do the checker thing on the website and write what I would get can someone tell me if im entitled to the sure start grant? lol
I have just read that whole thread and i also do not understand it at all. What is family 'element' ?
I thought you could get the sure start grant if you are on income support? is that right cos i will be and i will need it!
