Morning ladies

First of all I want to apologise for posting in here because I am not LTTC but I think that some of you will have the experience and expertise I am after.

I know I am jumping the gun but, at 40, I need to get to the bottom of what is wrong if anything is. My fears are based on gut instinct and changes that have been happening over the last six months.

My periods have suddenly become irregular (rather than a clockwork 28 day cycle, for the last 6 months they have been 27-34 days), I now have less EWCM and my ‘main’ periods have become lighter and shorter but they drag on (as in red blood for 10 extra days but not enough to use any sanitary products).

I invested in a CBFM and this is only my first cycle but I am on day CD17 and day 7 oh ‘highs’ with no peak.

Alone none of these symptoms would be a worry and I’m sure there will be lots of people telling me not to worry but together, and combined with my age, I am realy scared that we’ve left it too late. Am I right to worry? I guess the word I can barely bring myself to write is 'perimenopausal'..... :-(

Has anyone been in this position in their early 40s and seen their GP? What was the verdict?
I’ve been reading about Clomid and if I am right this may be an option – were you in a similar position to me and have been prescribed Clomid?

What I will probably do if I don’t get a ‘peak’ on y CBFM this month is see my GP and exaggerate (er lie) about the number of months this has happened in the hope I can act quickly, although I don’t hold much hope with the NHS if I need more than Clomid.

I have been taking Agnus Castus, EP and Co enzyme Q10 for one month.

I hope I haven't offended anyone by posting here. I have also posted in TCC over 35 but as it is personal experience I am looking for hopefully I will get advice here.

Thanks a lot

Hey there. :hugs:

About me, 46 years young, been TTC for 4 years.

First of all, the CBFM can take about 3 months to get used to your cycle, so that is not a worry, though I know you are worried. You should get your FSH and AMH done and your OH should get a SA, I got my FSH done through my GP (was pretty good for my age!) but had to pay for my AMH (not got that yet), this will give you a much clearer idea of how you stand, fertility wise. My GP wasn't that helpful, she said at my age, we shouldn't waste our money on tests and if it happens, it happens....yeah great, thanks for that!!!

So saw a FS last October, he put me on Clomid for 4 cycles, I am ovulating on it, which is good news. I have just finished cycle 3, I only have one cycle left, I am being realistic, we will probably be doing IVF, not sure whether it will be OE or DE yet. Seeing a Fertility Clinic this Monday, to find out AMH results and OH's latest SA results.

So, you are 6 years younger, I wish I had done all these tests at that age, I really do, so get armed...and dangerous, knowledge is power! :hugs: I am taking a fair few supplements, check sig, I rattle!!

Again, don't worry about the monitor yet, it will take a bit of time. Without knowledge, we panic, I know I did, but as soon as I started getting tests done and getting more info from the FS, it did really help.

Sorry for ramble, hope that helped a little! x

Stress can do a lot of different things to a period as well, and since you're really taking it to the next level of trying, that could also be a cause. If I were you, I'd ask your GP for a referral to a Fertility Specialist right away so you're not wasting any time.

Good luck!

Thanks for your positive replies Heavenly and Wonderstar.
It’s amazing how things can get blown out of all proportion when you want something so desperately.
We have Wellwoman check ups through work and mine is next week so I’m going to have a chat then about my options. And then go the my GP so I can hopefully get some free tests.

In the meantime I’ve also been reading a lot about people having no peak on their CBFM but still getting BFPs so I guess they are not the magic solution I hoped for.
I’m now CD 18 and day 8 of highs so if I don’t get a peak we will carry on BDing until if goes to low. If we can keep it up that is……

Good luck with your last cycle of Clomid Heavenly, I really hope it works for you and you don’t have to go the IVF route. IVF seems like such a big step to me now but I know I will do anything to have a baby and I’m already thinking about how we would finance it.

I have pretty much come to terms that we will be having IVF. Just don't know whether it will be my eggs or donor eggs. That is why I am seeing the Fertility Clinic on Monday. Getting various test results back. We may only be able to finance one cycle, if the odds for my eggs are 5% and donor eggs are 50%, it's a no brainer. We want to be parents, that is the most important thing. We have just had to change course to hopefully get there. :flower:
