Suspended from work?

My OH got suspended from work today. Basically, a toilet got flooded at work on purpose, someone had blocked the sink, left the taps on and locked the door from the inside as a prank.

The word soon got round work and my OH made a comment to his friend about the security they had were rubbish. He used to work for the security company they hired and didn't mention it on his cv as they sacked him. Word got back to bosses that he had dissed the security and that he used to work for them.

He got called into the office and they said they were suspending him as they as reason to believe he was the one who flooded the toilets because he had a grudge against the company. They suspended five other people too. They told him that they had to make a decision as to what to do so he'd get a letter in a few days asking him to a meeting after they've investigated it.

The other lads that have been suspended are close friends and my OH doesn't really talk to any of them. He's worried they'll all gang up and blame him for it. Plus my OH forgot his pass to get him into the building that day, so he was using other peoples passes. He's worried as this is a rule anyway and that it'll look shady.

We're really worried he'll loose his job. OH is so angry that he may loose his job over something he's never done. He's worried about getting sacked as it'll be hard to find another job but if he quits, he won't be able to get job seekers so we're stuck! Any advice would be great :(

Wow- that is crazy?! I cannot believe they suspended him for THAT? tbh, I cannot believe someone would pull a prank like that as a "adult"- but beside the point. All your OH can do is be honest- explain he might have talked some trash, don't try to hide that (in case others do gang up) and say he would never do anything that childish. That really sucks hun. But really all he can do. Be honest. I know it's hard not to worry- just try to remind yourself worry does no good- as you don't know what may happen yet. You can cross that bridge IF you get to it. Hopefully it all works out :hugs:

Thank you :hugs:

I'm hoping it doesn't come down o him loosing his job, but we can't be sure just yet. We'll be so annoyed if he gets sacked over a childish prank someone else has done and he's had to take blame for :(

Thank you for your reply :) x

They cannot sack him without evidence which they clearly do not have. A thorough investigation/interview and protocol needs to be followed or they are wide open for an employment tribunal. Has he had a letter indicating why he has been suspended, right to appeal, right to representation etc?

Take a look at this for the suggested process

Oh and ps this is assuming you are in the uk - specifically England

I said that to him too, that surely they'd need solid proof before they can do anything.

I'll get him to have a look at the link now, thank you! And yeah, we're from England :) x

i wonder if they chose to suspend so many of them just to make someone feel bad and fess up, without evidence i cant see they have a leg to stand on, and he very much has a case for a tribunal godo luck hun

If I were him I would start looking for another job right now! Good luck!

Thanks ladies. He lost his job :(

They couldn't blame him for it so they said as he didn't have his pass that day to get into the building and used someone else's that was against the rules and meant an automatic sack. He's looking for another job now.

Thanks for all your replies x

If I was him I'd start looking for another job. Even if they decide he had nothing to do with it and want to keep him on.

How can he continue to work there with that type of b.s.
