Hey all,
I am thinking about changing my DS's formula from Cow and Gate to SMA, as apparently Aldi sell SMA half the price of Cow and Gate!!

But I am worried about how my DS will react to it?!?! if at all!!

He is a very windy baby so dont want to chance upsetting his little tummy any more!!

Anyone got any advice?

Thanks :hugs:

Really? I would be very surprised if this is true. All of the major supermarkets charge £8.99 per 900g tin of SMA and £7.99 per 900g box tub of Cow and Gate.
Are you sure its first milk that is cheaper and not follow-on (6 months+) or toddler milk (1 year+)?
I would defo check it out for yourself before swapping but technically there is no harm in changing brands, but it may make your baby unsettled and some babies prefer one brand of formula over another. I wouldnt change if lo is settled on Cow and Gate unless it is true that you can find SMA first milk significantly cheaper. xxx

Changing the formula may upset him, but it also may not. SMA is a thicker formula than cow and gate, so I'd guess it may effect him in some way but maybe just in that he eats a little less. A friend of mine's lo was switched from aptamil to SMA and got on great guns with it. You'll only know if you try, but be prepared to give it a couple of weeks to make sure he's settled. Sorry for being wishy washy!

I am sceptical about how true it is .... I have got a feeling it will be the older age milk as well, will be checking it out tomorrow, and will let you all know!

I am still unsure whether I should do it, I have been googling other mums views on SMA and I have read it can cause constipation ... my little man already appears to struggle with his number 2's .... the HV does not seem bothered at all by this .. but then again she is not the one sitting in tears at 3am because her little man is crying and straining, and looks in so much pain!!!! .. sorry began ranting then!

Thanks for your advice, will let you all know if its true about the price!

Its the red one 6 month plus NO WHERE does gold cheaper than 8.99 and in some cases thats 9.99!!

well..... the £4.00 price tag was for the nappies on the shelf underneath ... my numpty OH did not read the price tag properly and assumed it was for the formula!!! :dohh:

so we are sticking to cow and gate, the price of SMA is ridiculous!!

xx
