Sweating - Hyperhidrosis

I suffer from Hyperhidrosis (sorry tmi), and I have been using Driclor which has alumninum chloride in it. I suffer quite badly due to working in a hot ICT room teaching 30 students 5 times a day - it being a state school no aircon!

Now I can't use it due to pregnancy...

I was wondering if anyone else suffered from it and found a good antiperspirant to use during pregnancy? Or if anyone knows a very good and strong antiperspirant?

Errmm uh oh now i'm worrying, i also use driclor, cos ever since i got my tongue pierced my glands play up, i went to the doctor about it when i told her i was pregnant and she perscribed it saying it's fine for pregnancy and i have been using it????

Sorry to hear you are suffering.I have found that the one's designed for sports are best i think it's Right Guard Sports or maybe one of the mens one's as they are often more effective.

katie my doctor didn't know anything about it! Told me to see a chemist! I'll have to go and speak to them...

aww coolios, i'm sure you'll be fine using it then, i haven't had any problems with it and research would say if it was bad for pregnancy (i hope) lol.

Hi, Driclor seems to be safe to use in pregnancy. Hyperhidrosis is a miserable condition and it would be awful for you to have to suffer unneccessarily throughout your pregnancy. Out of interest, do you find it works well or is it only partially effective for you?

I find it really works well... It takes about 4 days to get it under control. Then I use it every other day. But I also use antiperspirant each morning as well.

I switch between driclor and perspirex as well...

Sometimes when it itches too much I make sure I dry my under arms with hair drier... then it doesn't itch. Seems to play up when water is near. Oh and I don't like the fact I can't shave for a couple of days either!

I started off using it but it didn't do anything for me, so I tried iontophoresis which also didn't work and went onto have a thoracic sympathectomy a few years back - best decision I ever made, although if driclor had worked for me, I would have stuck with the least invasive treatment. You should be OK using it from what the current literature says

I also have this and have stopped using Driclor and odaban since I found I waspregnant. I find the best deodrant is one called MITCHUM. Green bottle bit more expenive but is very good xx

Sorry I can't help with your question but do you find the Driclor really good? I have a bad problem with underarm sweating. In a normal day, I get huge wet patches under my arms which then causes soreness and the more embarrassed I get, the more I sweat. Do you think this sounds like it could work for me?

Driclor is worth a shot as it's the safest and least time-consuming treatment. If it doesn't work for you, your GP can refer you to a Dermatologist

I also suffer from this horrible thing and I find that Degree deodorant works very well. It's the only one is use and my condition is pretty bad and embarrasing of course at times.

I used Driclor tonight and my underarms are burning like HELL! It started off as a light tingling, but got to the point where I had to go and get a wet flannel to cool my underarms. I could have cried with the pain, seriously. I feel a bit better now but it is still hurting and if I lift my arms, even more so..

Any advice?

I can't use Driclor as it stings me to! I use ODABAN. Spray only once at night time or this will sting as well! Not as bad though and better than driclor.
Not using anything but Mitchum whikst preg - so plenty of black tops and cardigans!!!

This morning my underarms are a bit red and reallly stinging.. wow, didn't know it would hurt that much! think i've had a bad reaction to it.

I suffer really bad too. It makes me feel so much better knowing it's so common!

Driclor hurt me that bad as well Tilly, so I never bothered going back to the doctors. I just watch what clothes I wear, and how tight they'll be under my arm - especially t-shirts. I find that I have to throw t-shirts away after about 3 months as the amount of deoderant I have to throw on means the sweating turns the armpits an awful colour.

Tilly and others that had a problem with Driclor...

This is what you need to do...

Wash your armpits
Dry with towel
Use your hair drier on a cool setting and completly dry your under arms.
Then apply.
Try and lie with your arms above your head for a bit!

The redness is due to reaction to water. What it does is forms a cover over the glands and gets the sweat re-absorbed into the body.

I'm now on perspirex which does the same thing. Also never ever do for Total Dry - complete waste of money, doesn't work.

If its really sore, put e45 cream on

Lots of people don't tolerate creams/ointments/gels/deodorant etc and a lot of people get a contact dermatitis (red, sore and sometimes itchy skin allergic reaction). There are other treatments for hyperhidrosis aside from topical ones - your GP/Dermatologist can guide you as to which is most appropriate.
