hey ladies

What’s the earliest you have been offered a sweep (UK) ?

I had two with DD1 but I was overdue anyway and they never worked ! and one with DD2 at 39 weeks which worked and she was born 2 days later

I’m already suffering with SPD/back pain to the point were I couldn’t walk for three days last week! Was awful thankfully it’s a lot better now but obviously my thoughts have turned to the next 10 weeks + !

I should see my midwife at 38 weeks then again at 40 weeks . I was thinking of asking her for a sweep at 38 weeks if things are looking good ? Anyone had this done ? Third pregnancy if it makes a difference !
Thanks all x

So sorry about your SPD and back pain, I'm in the same boat wondering how I'm going to survive the next 10+ weeks. I hope they do offer you a sweep at 38 weeks. We have a family wedding at my 39th week... I doubt I'd go, though, even if I were still pregnant (which I probably still will be...). No idea about when they offer sweeps in the UK though, or where I live for that matter.

I honestly dont see why they wouldnt let you have a sweep at 38 weeks. Besides your classed as full term then. I'm having a section at 36 weeks due to me basically wanting one that early at st Mary's in Manchester. Iv had terrible anxiety this pregnancy and they agreed. I had a sweep done on my sons due date and he was born that same day. Goodluck x

Ah honey I’m so sorry to hear this! First... they wouldn’t sweep me until 41 weeks!!! But I went into labour that day so didn’t need it! Second I had one at 40 +5 and 40+9. Third I saw my midwife at 39+6 and she wouldn’t sweep me as I wasn’t 40 weeks! Defo ask your midwife as it seems as though different areas have different thoughts on it xxx

Sorry your suffering from anxiety ! It’s a awful thing speaking from experience ! Hope it calms down for you once baby is here hun !

Yeah I’m going to ask I’ve made a note to ask her on my next appointment at 34 weeks anyway! I have the same midwife as I did with DD2 so fingers crossed she will give me one.

Just hoping they won’t leave me until 40 weeks as I know some midwives can be a bit funny like you say mummy ! Hopefully with my on going back and SPD they won’t !

I had my DS last week after 31 weeks of severe SPD , it started at 7 weeks on crutches at 22 weeks pretty much house bound by 34 weeks but here's the good news. I got a sweep at 39 weeks at 2pm on the wed and I delivered him at 140 am on the Friday. Technically I was in active labour for 50 mins although I was in slow early labour for few days. I went from 4 cm to delivered in less than 10 mins , I think it's the only advantage to spd for me was that I delivery quickly in the end as pelvis moves so easily.

Oh I feel your pain ! My left hip is more painful than my right one !

That must have been awful all those weeks in agony ! Wow that was a really quick active labour ! Congratulations on your baby boy !
I hope your SPD has improved quickly !

They wouldn't do a sweep with my 1st until the Monday after my due date, she came on the Saturday naturally anyway! With my son I had a sneaky sweep off a friend who is also a qualified midwife, it didn't work though my son lasted 2 more weeks and then he was induced hahaha

Yeah with my first they wouldnt sweep until I was over . I lived in a different area at the time. DD2 the midwife in my new area were I live now wasn’t bothered long as baby was in a favourable position which she was ! Here’s to hoping he’s in a good position when the time comes !

I’m from the UK and had my midwife appointment yesterday. She said I can have a stretch and sweep at my next appointment (if I make it that far) at 39 weeks!

Ooo thanks Maple Fairy !

Good luck to you ! Xx
