I am thinking of switching to combination feeding from him having just EBM at some point in the not too distant future and was wondering what is the best way to do it?

I assume formula will taste totally different to ebm so would I be best mixing a small bit of formula into his normal ebm bottle and gradually upping the amount of formula milk?

Will babies happily take say 2 bottles of formula and the rest of ebm per day or would he be better having all his bottles 50/50 formula/ebm?

Thanks!

I'm not sure but I do think they have a different taste so he may have to be weaned onto a full formula bottle?

Posts like this, that may fit into both FF and BF are fine to post in each respective area if you like :)

They will taste different. TBH I would see if he will take the formula as it is - I think they say Aptimal is the closest to breastmilk (my LO didn't get on with it but that's besides the point!). If he will take the formula straight then great, if not then try mixing it with some EBM - just means more work for you. I introduced formula to my BF baby without mixing with EBM with no problems. It really depends on the baby - mine was always really hungry so would pretty much drink anything anyway!! Hope that helps.

Josh was fed both for the first two weeks, 2 EBM feeds a day, the rest formula, until he totally refused the breast milk!

It made him very constipated, since being fully formula fed its not been as bad. If he was still taking the EBM i would of swapped formula but he'd already made his mind up!

I never mixed EBM in with formula when I was combination feeding, Ruby took the formula no problem. (Cow and Gate btw). However after about 2 weeks the breastmilk feeds were not satisfying her (i.e hungry an hour later).
