I got home today to discover my feet were very swollen and hanging over my shoes (gross) and my ankles have all but vanished. I never expected this so soon, it's not as if the weather is warm or that I've been on my feet all day. Other than elevating my legs is there anything else that I can do? Help! I had such lovely ankles and now they are like a big fat dough ball:cry::cry:

o dear , i havn't had this happen yet, it's something i worry about though!
rest your legs with ya feet up
"Get up and walk every one or two hour."
"Increase your muscle activities with brisk walking and light foot exercises. "

try to keep active for better circulation and try not to have too much salt in your diet.

hope it gets better!

mine too - my husband commented on it today - thanks love!

we're supposed to keep our feet above our heart for an hour a day, but that's not easy....

I used to get swollen feet before I got pregnant (my mum gets it so i think it's in my genes...and i'm a teacher on my feet all day!) in the evening take your shoes and socks off and elevate your feet on cushions, if you keep them elevated the swelling goes down.

Me too - they go back to normal over the weekend as I keep them up but during the week at work - sat at a desk - they go bad again.

I checked with the mw - she checked my bp which is fine - all I can do is elevate when possible, excercise ( pregnancy yoga which I started this week helped a bit ), drink plenty of water and that's all I can do.

The worst thing is ( apart from losing my ankles ) is how tight they feel, and sore :(

My dutch MIL gave me a piece of advice..put a pillow or two under your mattress and that really helps..

Like others have mentioned, try keeping your feet up for a bit will really help. In addition, make sure to try and keep hydrated and watch the salt intake because that can make things really worse.

Sometimes what I used to do when my ankles were swollen was to elevate them and to use a cold compress.

My feet have been swelling over the past few days as I've been on my feet more. The only things that seem to help is making sure that I drink enough water and elevating my feet at the end of the day. Not drinking enough water can actually contribute to water retention...

I put 2 pillows at the end of my bed and sleep with my feet on them (even on my side) and watch your salt intake too. I have been getting swollen feet here and there for a while it has been very hot and humid here and I sit down all day at work.. Usually I notice it if i wear flats more than other shoes, but a night or 2 sleeping with my feet propped up takes care of it :)

I've been having this problem as well.

Your uterus and stuff are getting heavy. There is a main artery that is on the right side of your pelvic area. It's being constricted by the baby and uterus.

Lie on your left side to alleviate the pressure. It will help things flow.

Mine are mega swollen. I don't even wear shoes if I can avoid it!

I'm waiting for this to start as I have had swollen ankles on numerous occassion pre pregnancy. I would agree with the ladies advice of elevating your ankles at night as that's a good few hours you're asleep that you can take the pressure off. You might find two pillows straight away a bit weird to get used to so maybe start with one and then increase to two as you get used to it. I also found that cooling them in a bucket of water before elevating seemed to help a lot too as it boosted circulation.

Thanks for the advice everyone. They went down a lot last night but have blown up again today after a bit of housework. I'm trying to keep them up as much as possible but dh has cracked his ribs so am looking after him and the 3 kids so not getting as much opportunity as I would like to sit down!! Roll on this evening so I can stick some cushions under them xxx
