T1 diabetic and stillbirth

are there any ladies who we're a T1 and experienced a stillbirth who went on to have a healthy birth after?
my son was stillborn in dec 10 at 35+ weeks and was told from his post mortem results that my diabetes could have been a factor for his death.
im scared now that this will happen again to this baby and i wont be listened to. they was going to deliver ryan between 34 and 35 weeks but he was perfectly fine at my 34 week growth scan which is why they didnt want to deliver him too early but passed away at 35+1. i want this one delivered at 34 weeks as i cant risk this happening again but scared they wont listen.

What a gorgeous boy he was xx My friend has the T1 too and had all her 4 delivered around the 34 week mark, they are all bonny bouncing kids today I would think that they would definately deliver you around then due to little Ryan. Good luck to youxxx

no advice but i hope your pregnancy goes well!! I think due to your history they will be more likely to listen and deliver earlier and if they don't want to listen, make them!!

I have no advice either, but I am so deeply sorry for your loss I wish you nothing but the best with this pregnancy. Try to find a doctor who will listen to you and address your concerns, don't give up on that. xoxox

I am a type 1 diabetic but have not had a stillbirth and delivered both my daughters at 38 weeks - you need to address your concerns very directly and be prepared for them to give you the other extremes - basically that diabetics babies have lung problems too and are more likely to have trouble breathing if born at 34 weeks (or anything prior to 38 weeks for that matter) However they can treat these problems in NICU.

Really hope that this pregnancy goes well for you - you are dealing with a lot of tough issues right from the start. Will be thinking of you.

I am also T1 with first baby so unfortunately can't help. Surely because of what happened with your first baby they will be more compassionate this time round?

I am constantly paranoid that the worst will happen because of my diabetes - I haven't even bought anything and don't want to until it's here.

They say diabetes probably resulted in the still birth but what was it - was it sugar control or placental issues? Sorry for the question but as I said I am totally paranoid and just want to be aware of what can happen.

Whenever you deliver, I hope it goes smoothly.

I am also t1 and at my 20 week scan they booked scans for 28,32 and 36 weeks. And they told me that was the minimum, if anything did not look rigth in any of them I would have them weekly. I was told by the midwife that I can book appointmens from week 24 weekly if I want. At my hospital they have a very good diabetic pregnancy clinic. I would ring your hospital and ask for a scan.

thank you for all of your kind words. sorry i haven't been on or replied sooner.
i had an early scan at 7+4 weeks then 12, 18,20 weeks then had growth scans every 4 weeks until i was 32 weeks then had a doppler and growth scans every week until i found out he had died at 35 weeks so quite a few scans.
i met with my consuktant today who went through the post mortem results with me properly, because my diabetes was uncontrolled before i fell pregnant my first hba1c was 11.7 this was the result of his death. diabetic babies grow to quick and the placenta doesn't grow as well and fully accomodate their needs( because my diabteres was uncontrolled for such a long time) obviously this is not the case for everybody i was just one of the unlucky ones.
however now i have seen her she said we have started off on an even better foot this time because my hba1c came back 2 weeks ago at 7.1 so there shouldn;t be much concern but i still dont want to go past 34 35 weeks with this one.
hope you all have H&H pregnancies and please dont let my story make you bellieve it will happen to all of you it was because i didnt take care of myself at the start x

I'm glad your starting out much better this time, they should keep a really close eye on you and hopefully deliver baby before you hit 35weeks. Hope you have a very happy and healthy 9months, good luck with everything will be looking forward to your birth announcement xx

J, my friend did.

She lost her son Isaac to Undiagnosed Diabetes and went on to have 2 rainbow baby girls.

She delivered them both 36 plus weeks by Elective Section and they are both happy healthy little girlies.
