Taking a break from Clomid?

I'm just on my 3rd cycle of Clomid. The first cycle at 50mg didn't work. They upped me to 100mg and it has made me ovulate but the side effects have been awful.

When I finished taking my tablets this cycle I felt so depressed and suicidal and I really don't want to feel like that again. I am currently on cd31 with bfn this morning so I presume AF is just around the corner.

I'm supposed to take Clomid on cd 2-6 but was thinking of taking a month off. I have 3 months worth left to take when I feel emotionally ready to start taking it again.

Has anyone ever taken a break from Clomid? Is it okay to do this or should I continue for the next 3 months and do the Clomid 6 months consecutively?

I took a break. My cycle after 100 mg was awful and I was an emotional wreck. I then asked to switch to femara. Would your doctor be open to that?

I think it's okay to take a break. Femara (even the lowest dose) left cysts on my ovaries so I think it's actually good to give your ovaries some time to rest from the stimulation drugs now and then.

It would depend what your cycles are like. If you don't get AF on your own then you'll need something like provera to ensure that you get an AF so you can start Clomid again.

But if you're feeling sucidal then I'd recommend you talk to your doctor. Femara might be a better option. Although, Clomid shouldn't be in your system at the end of the cycle so it's possible that it's not the Clomid but the sh*tness of TTC and infertility making you feel like that.

Try and keep your hopes up. I conceived on my third Clomid cycle and like you, the first didn't work, second was a BFN. Good luck

I took a break for several months this year after my first round, but since I don't ovulate on my own I needed Provera to start my period again. But my doctor didn't seem too concerned that I was starting and stopping like that.

Sorry I have only just seen all of your replies!

I decided to go with taking a break and I'm on my 2nd cycle without Clomid and have been getting periods as normal but not sure if I have been ovulating. I should be in my fertile window now and have been getting OV symptoms these past few days so FX.

I have felt so much better off the Clomid but plan to start taking it again at the beginning of my next cycle.

I did mention my side effects at the fertility clinic and was told that it's normal to feel that way and that I could try something else but would have to start again at the beginning.. starting on a lower dosage and then going for blood tests and scans. I think that because I know I do ovulate with Clomid I'm probably better giving it another go. If the depression and suicidal thoughts do come back then I'll stop taking it and try something else.

I had a heavy period on my first cycle without Clomid, but that's because it made me ovulate and so my body was doing what it was supposed to. But until I started it again my periods were super abnormal again. On Clomid I can count on about a 33 day cycle. Without, I could go about 2+ months without a period, which is why I needed the Provera.

My cycles on Clomid were averaging at 31 days but last cycle without Clomid my cycle was 29 days which is what they used to be before I fell pregnant with my son. The consultant said that having my son made my PCOS a lot worse which is why I'm having problems now. It's all so confusing and head blagging.

I just can't help thinking that the longer it is taking, the less chance I have of it actually happening.

It's been 19 months now and it just feels like the clock is ticking. The clinic have said that if the Clomid doesn't work then the next step is IVF but at £7,000 a round it just isn't financially possible for me and OH.
