I just recently switched doctors offices due to moving to another state and my new doctor advised me not to take Benadryl but my old doctor said it was okay and everywhere I read says its okay. Has anyone heard advice about this one way or another? I have bad seasonal allergies and this is the only thing getting me through. Why the conflict in advice? Also, does anyone know any home remedies that my help instead of the Benadryl?

I took benadryl, my Dr says it is fine.

Thank you Jellyx.

My original doctor said it was okay too and now I'm being told no because its a decongestant. I just thought it was weird for conflicting advice and nothing has changed in my pregnancy.

My OB said it's fine, they give you a a list of meds you can take at your first prenatal visit and if you have any questions you can call and ask or ask a pharmacist. But I take it.

i took benadryl when i was pregnant with my son. a few drs recommended it but i did have one that didnt.
my son is perfectly healthy :flower:

I took it pretty frequently during my pregnancy to help me sleep. My midwife said that I could take it daily if needed.

Thanks everyone! I will probably continue to take it because if I don't my allergies kick my butt! LOL

I had to take it for hives. I suffered for a day before the Dr. got back to me and said it was safe.

Benadryl is an antihistamine and not a decongestant. I developed a nasty cold and had my Dr appointment today and doc recommended it specifically but did say to drink extra water because of its drying properties. He also said regular sudafed is fine in the 3rd trial, in moderation. Also, he told me that zyrtec is OK in pregnancy and often works much better.

I trust my Dr completely since he is a high risk specialist. Hope you feel better

Thank you Angelique! It was the nurse that told me not to take it, not my Dr. I should have specified that but it does make sense to drink extra water. Thanks for the advice about Zyrtek also. I might get some of that to get through the season with my oh so lovely allergies since Benadryl doesn't seem to quite cut it some days :growlmad:

My midwife said benadryl is fine....don't get the kind with other stuff in it though. She also said I can take 24 hr claritin too.

As far as natural remedies: Eating locally made honey is good for developing resistance to local plants/pollens that may cause allergies. It's also an antibacterial so it's good for your immune system.
