Taking longer than I thought to get PG after mc, so on to RE/FS! Anyone else?

Just thought I'd start a thread for those in a similar situation if anyone would like to join. My m/c was very early... I was barely 5 weeks. But regardless, I thought I'd get PG again pretty quick, and had high hopes for those first three months that we're supposed to be more fertile after a mc. It has now been about five months for me and still nothing, even though I used the same dose of med that got me PG the first time. So last month, I took matters into my own hands and decided to see an RE/FS. I used Femara, the trigger shot, and IUI, and although it didn't work out, I am onto IUI#2 this cycle. I'm getting pretty aggressive because I'm so ready to be PG again, and I've def put enough time into this, so if IUI#2 doesn't work out, I'm onto IVF, and I'm pretty excited about it! After my loss, the desire to be PG again was even greater than before, and I'm ready to do whatever it takes. Anyone else out there who expected to see that BFP again quickly, and still waiting?

Hi, I also had a very early m/c back in December (6 weeks), I saw a new OB who refused to run any tests for 6 months and told me to just "have well timed intercourse", well here I am 5 months later still not pregnant and have discovered that I have a very short LP (around 8-9 days), he ran a progesterone lab which came back at 7 and he said that was "great news"...but I have my doubts. I decided to make an appointment with an RE instead, I am ready to move on and get tests done. Unfortunately, this has been a rough year, my Grandmother passed away in February, followed by my Grandfather in May. I had to cancel my appointment with the RE for my Grandpa's funeral. My new appointment is on Tuesday, May 27th. I am a little nervous but totally ready to take that next step. Looking forward to meeting new girls who are in a similar situation and I hope to see lots of bfps here soon!

ERose, is your plan to take femara, the trigger and IUI again this cycle? Now that you know what to expect and the timing, I am positive that this will be your cycle! :)

Hi ladies a little background on myself. We started ttc number 1 in April 2011. After about 15 months and no bfp went off to the docs who referred us to the FS after DH had SA(all was good) and i had cd21 bloods and I'm ovulating. Then after 19 months ttc we get our first bfp. Unfortunately we mc at 6 weeks whilst waiting for a FS appt. Get to see the FS who tells us to wait a year until after the mc. Its gets to 10 more months and I go back to the doc for a second referral. Next month bfp! But again we mc. We finally get to see a FS who takes us a little more seriously. I've had more cd21 bloods and cd3 bloods done, all came back good. I had an ultrasound last week and all was fine so now waiting for our next FS appointment to find out where we go from here. I hope you ladies get bfps soon!

Hi flou, thanks for joining! I'm so sorry for your two losses sweetie. :hugs: I'm so surprised your RE said you had to wait a year after a mc! I've never heard that before. I'm glad you found another that will take you more seriously now. I'm excited that your tests have been good, and excited to hear of next steps for you!! You'll be on your way to a STICKY bean very very soon!!! :flower: Keep us posted!

Savvy, yes, doing the same thing this cycle, as far as I know. My day3 appt is tomorrow, so I guess if they want to switch anything up, they'll tell me tomorrow. But since everything looked pretty good with the drugs from last cycle, I'm guessing it will be the same. I'm super excited about your appt soon!! I have a feeling your RE will be getting you a bfp quickly! :)

Hi flou, I am sorry for your losses. When is your next FS appointment? Glad that your test results are good, hoping you get your bfp this cycle!

ERose, I am glad you have an appointment tomorrow! What do they do on CD3 as far as testing? I am thinking I will be on CD1-2 at my RE appointment unless I get lucky this cycle. I was going to try the P cream but I don't want to screw with my normal levels for inaccurate tests results with the RE, if I need a boost in P I want it from the doctor, not from me trying out more cream. I see some sticky bfps in our future!

Savvy, you might make it in time then!! They will do your consult, and if it's day1 or 2, if you and your RE decide to try meds (clomid or Femara or whatever), I think they'd be able to go ahead and get you started for day3. Although I can't be sure, as they may want the SA and HSG first. It depends on how your RE works.

Day3 bloods will be measuring certain hormones in your body to make sure they're where they need to be at that point in your cycle, like estrogen, LH, FSH, and probably a few others. You could also go ahead and have your AMH tested, although they can do that at any time in your cycle, but that will measure your ovarian reserve (basically gives them an idea of whether your ovaries are still producing plenty of eggs). At my age, I was worried about that one since i'm 37 yrs old, but as it turned out, my number came back great, so I was SO relieved. If you do a treatment cycle (if you and your RE decided to get you on meds), the day3 tests are a little more involved... they will go ahead and do an u/s to see how many follicles your ovaries are starting to produce. If there are too few, that means your ovarian reserve could be low...if there are too many, I think it could mean PCOS. It basically gives them an idea of what types/doses of meds you may need. But I'm not sure if they'd start you on a treatment cycle without the SA and/or HSG. I think it depends on the RE. So you may just have the blood testing as a start. Oh, there's also genetic testing, but they may wait to do that until your first actual treatment cycle starts too. Hope that helps!

I just got to thinking... since your appt is soon, maybe you should call your GI doctor or do some research to see if meds like that are going to be okay for your tummy. I know how sensitive your tummy is, so it might be worth checking into ahead of time, although maybe the RE would even know the answer to that. But like I said, if your RE requires the SA and/or HSG prior to doing a treatment cycle, you might just have the blood tests to start out.

Hi, all (and hi, flou!)... I've been TTC since December 2012 with PCOS and a loss September 2013. I would have been due Mother's Day weekend, and obviously my due date came and went without that BFP. I've been on Femara for two cycles and no clear ovulation... my cycles are all over the place. I'm on CD 34 and don't even know if I've ovulated yet this cycle but I was feeling pretty hopeful, so I guess we'll see.

I have another doctor's appointment on Wednesday... still working with my regular gyno right now, but I have a feeling my future includes a trip to the RE. I'm 31.5 and I know I'm 'sort of young,' but it doesn't feel that way when all of my friends are easily getting pregnant and working on their second and third and I'm still struggling with #1.

Having taken so long to get preg again after an MC has really affected my relationship with my husband (especially since inconsistent cycles mean a really long time of 'chore BD'), my mental health, and even my sense of self as a woman... anybody else dealt with that?

ERose, Thanks for the great explanation of the Day 3 testing. I really want to fit in all the necessary tests that first cycle with the RE, I am not too concerned about starting any meds unless they feel it is an absolute must. I am more concerned about the length of my LP and getting P checked. But I still want all the testing they are able to do along with the SA for my husband. Good luck at your appointment today.

Thanks for the reminder, I actually have an appointment with my GI tomorrow. Unfortunately she can't help too much with what meds I can take, I need to contact my dietitian. It is a crazy process since my GI decides what the plan is but she has no idea if the ingredients in those meds hurt my stomach! I am glad you mentioned the meds though, I was so focused on getting pregnant I didn't even think about not being able to take the meds. I quickly looked at clomid and femara and I would probably have to take clomid since femara has polydextrose in it. I could try femara if I had to...it may or may not bother me, if it does bother me I would just be sick for the few days I would take it. My diet is hard to explain but it is all in the amount of certain ingredients my body can handle, there might not be enough polydextrose to really bother me. Also both had lactose listed which might cause some problems for me too. At least the meds are only taken one a day for 5 days! My stomach med I take twice a day does have me a bit concerned, it is listed in Class C which means they really don't know and is only recommended for use during pregnancy when there are no alternatives and benefit outweighs risk. If I don't take it every 12 hours I really start feeling tummy issues within a few hours. My GI doc said we would worry about the meds only if we needed to, so I am confident she would help me out when I get pregnant and decide with the RE what needs to be done. Oops, sorry so long! Thanks though for the reminder! :flower:

Hi CallMeAL1982, welcome to the group! I am so sorry about your m/c. I have to say that this process has taken a toll on my mental health, after my m/c and two of my grandparents passing away I find that I don't really care about anything but getting and staying pregnant. My poor hubby does what he can to help and he is so good to me. I used to be ocd with cleaning, etc. and I find myself online instead of cleaning my house. I think my appointment next Tuesday (27th) with the RE will give me some positive vibes and help lift my spirits.

Welcome CallMe, we're happy to have you join us, although I am so sorry for your loss. I started TTC the same time as you, and I had my mc about two months after you did. It was so hard after trying so long and then getting they BFP and having it taken away so fast. I have to admit though, once I got past the grief, I was so happy to at least finally know that I could conceive! I conceived on clomid, and I just assumed I'd get pregnant again quickly. No such luck so far. I'm on femara with my RE now, and have only had one cycle on it. In looking at your charts, it looks to me like you might O at least sometimes.... I see you got pos OPKs, and even though your temps are a little unclear, there's somewhat of a rise, so ya' never know! And a couple of your earlier charts looked really good. Fxd that you'll get a BFP in a few days and won't even need that RE! :)

Savvy, I agree maybe you won't even need meds... Maybe all you need are some P sups to lengthen your LP. And since you can get suppositories, that shouldn't bother your stomach at all. :) All the blood tests they'll run will give them a better idea on your hormone levels and things like that, and that will determine whether or not you need any other meds. All my tests were normal, but since I've been TTC for so long, and considering my age and needing to get the ball rolling, I was given meds anyway, just to boost things a bit.

So girls, looks like I might be doing IVF sooner than I thought. :) :) I might be getting started w/ the IVF prep process in a couple days, which will probably be to start BCP for two weeks. After that the IVF process will begin. I have to admit, while I never used to see myself having to go this route, I'm super excited about it now. :)

ERose, I am very excited just to finally get some tests run! I know a lot of my levels are screwed up so I want to make sure that isn't effecting me ttc. One question I know we talked about a few months ago...remember how I said my Vitamin D was low, didn't your OB tell you to take some vitamin D too? Have you had that level checked again? I got my labs done last Friday for my appointment with my GI tomorrow, unfortunately my Vitamin D is still very low. In January it was 9 and now at least it is 16, but normal range is 25-100. Guess I should spend all my time outside in the sun. I know that is probably counting against me and I plan to mention that to the RE too.

I am excited for you, it seems like things are working out and pointing you in the direction you need to go. Good luck, can't wait to hear your appointment report on Wednesday.

Not much new here, had the sharp pains on my side last night and today has been more of the dull ache across the lower abdomen. No temp rise yet, we will see what happens tomorrow morning. 1 week until my RE appointment!

Yep, my vit D was a little low. It was my RE that tested for that. She said it wasn't too much below what it should be, but she still wanted me to get it up higher, so she told me to take 4000 IU per day for... 30 days, I think...? It's been more than 30 days now, but I'm still taking it. They haven't retested me yet, so when I see her next Wed, I'll ask her when she plans on doing that. I think it was 30 days that she said to take it. Oh well, I'll keep taking it until she tests me again.

I'm so sorry yours is still so low. I wonder if your GI doc will up your dose. I know you're already taking a ton, but there has to be some way to get it back up! Let me know how your GI appt goes tomorrow! I'm so excited your RE appt is coming up soon!! So exciting!

ERose, got back from a disappointing appointment, some of my levels are still screwed up so I must have a CT scan which could be dangerous if I am pregnant. I am going to wait until after my appointment with the RE to figure out when a good time is to schedule it...or I might just see if they have an appointment available next week, as long as I have AF I should be okay. A bit mad because I don't think I have what they are testing for, I feel like I am wasting money on unnecessary procedures that put me at risk with radiation! But my doctor yelled at me and told me it was necessary to rule out IBD. I also still need to take 50,000 Vitamin D a week and hope my level goes up. On a good note, the GI asked me how baby making was going...I told her I was going to see the RE. She said don't worry about the meds, testing, etc. She said when I did get prego that she will help figure out what my next steps are GI related.

I never think it is bad to take some Vitamin D daily, I am sure we can all use a boost. I think it is better in the summer to get natural D, at least you live in the sunshine state!

Eprose good luck with IVF! So exciting!

I can tell that O is approaching so hoping to catch the egg. I'm waiting for my next appointment with the FS. I hope its not too long a wait!

Hi callmeal how are you?
