we took the sides off the cot with DS1 at 15 months because he hated the sides - luckily he was one of these kids that would never get out his bed just sit crying until we went to him so it was never an issue - his room was baby proof with a stair gate
DS2 is a whole different matter hes nearly 19 months and we wont be taking the sides of his cot for a long time!
Just the other day he got in our bed in the night - at some point he woke up without us noticing and snuck out our room found a chocolate santa and brought it back into our room. we woke up to find him sat on the end of our bed scoffing chocolate
Haha!
My ds2 would probably get stark naked and run around playing with ds1's cars.
But it does absolutely depend on the child!
