Talk to me about Clomid, please

I found out today I have low Progesterone (or at least did last cycle). My OB told me that Clomid would help raise my Progesterone. I'm not sure what to think since I always ovulate on my own?? I thought it was for those who don't O. I have been reading alot that say in fact Clomid does help raise Progesterone. Not sure of my level, but he said it showed I O'd but it isn't high enough to sustain a pregnancy..


So those who have taken Clomid how did you react to it? And how long did it take to work (Pregnancy).

hi there oneproudmummy...

im currently on my 1st round of clomid....due on any day agghhh!! my blood results showed i appeared to be ov fine but my fs agreed that i should try clomid as i have polycysts on my only ovary....it def worked as i had follicular tracking and produced a nice size follicule which def got released.....whether or not that would of happened without the clomid i really dont know!! i have heard that clomid can help with progesterone levels that are slightly low....i usually have spotting b4 af arrives for roughly 3 days...my fs said i may or may not get it this mth due to me using clomid....but its strange because when i said to her i was worried about the spotting and asked whether it was progesterone levels dropping far too quickly than they should...she replied aying the spotting wouldnt be the cause of that....it really confuses me!!

I see you have 5 children already...were they assisted pregnancies..sorry to ask...just interested!!

I havent had any bad side effects on the clomid....i took the pills at night as heard any side effects will be slept on during night that way.

sorry 4got to mention that you could try vit B Complex pills??? Im going to start taking them if af arrives this mth....they help with progesterone & spotting apparently...xx

No this is the first time I've had to have help. I have had a few M/C in the past, but not sure why? I start Clomid 5-9 and today i'm on CD2. I really hope I don't get any side effects . I can take a little headache, hot flash, and mild cramping. I haven't tried Vit. B. I'll look into it thanks again

Also have you given Femara a thought? I've heard and read that Femara is way nicer on your body than Clomid. I'm calling my OB on Monday to see if he will re write a new script for it instead.

I ovulated and got clomid prescribed. My progesterone actually went down (not sure why) but I did get a BFP second cycle of taking it. Good luck. XXXXX

I'm not on clomid, but am on cycle #1 of femara (letrozole). I had absolutely no side effects. Like you said, I've read and been told that it's much kinder on your body than clomid. Good luck!

I asked my fs if I could try clomid and he said no cuz I ovulate on my own and it causes cm to dry up and wouldn't help-should I press him or trust him?? I also asked for progesterone but he said my levels were fine and I explained to him about my pms and pain from the day after I ovulate and asked if it was hoemonal and he just sain no its my age. when I explained that i had always been like this he just shrugged his shoulders and said " IVF" sooner than later and that was the end of the discussion. I am hoping it happen this month naturally then it is off to a clinic in Jan. What do you think bout the clomid?

TBH i only got it to improve my chances of ovulating from the left as I only have one tube. I wasnt going to get a thrid cycle as my progesterone ( for whatever reason) was actually going down)

I have found drs in general dont like to be pushed on medication, so if you were keen for it maybe broach the subject one more, asking him again to confirm why he is ruling it out. You could perhaps ask if there would be a case for trying a few cycles will you wait for IVF.

I cant say for certain if the clomid caused my left side to ovulate and I guess I never will.

I was due to be sterilised on the left side in preparation for IVF in Jan, and we were told that was our best bet.

In a nutshell I would try one last discussion and trust what he says. XXX

Just to clarify when you talk about clomid working, this means making you ovulate, not pregnancy, albeit that is a wonderful consequence, however Drs dont take kindly to being told its not working, if what you mean is no BFP. Take it from me!

trouble is now i think thats us finished he knows its private ivf and by the time i get a follow up appt it will be another 10 weeks down the line so this month it is healthy diet(from monday anyway!) and accupuncture to go all out for a BFP naturally then if not IVF kicks off in the new year xx

Thanks ladies. My OB gave me 50mg of Clomid to take on days 5-9 this cycle. Then an U/S on the 3rd.

Yeah might try that although he is a bit clueless on all matters of fertility-mind you he is going to speak to the other partners in practice bout getting my ivf drugs on prescription so fx on that one-he said yes straight away himself until I told him the price lol!!

hey glitterqueen, i hav pains around ov, quite bad at times dr even thought it was my appendics an sent me to hsptl... Where dr sed i cud hav ad a cyst that burst...has u/s to c if i had cysts (i didnt) i ov on my own, but we havin male fertiility problems + i stil got perscribed clomid to hope that the sperm may reach a 2nd egg...? I think my dr wants is to try a few routes b4 ivf, to see if it happens for us. It does hav a 40% sucess rate (although i personally feel thats with ppl who dont ov ir hav irregular cycles, or mayb with pergesterone) but hey, im willing to try!! I hav been bloated all month frm taking it, i hav had mood swings an i am tierd 24/7 altho im hoping this month i hav less syptoms... Good luck girls x x

Just a little update and ?s

I took my 3rd. pill lastnight and can't say that I havce any S/E? The only thing I have noticed is my ovaries are both pinchy, mild AF aching, hungry / thirsty more often. Also my cervix is high since taking Clomid. Is this normal? It's normally low/medium at this point for me.

I hope this is a good sign since I don't have any of the S/E mentioned. No hot flashes, headaches etc.?
