Tattoo's and breastfeeding

Are you able to get a tattoo whilst still breastfeeding or not advisable? Obviously it would be from a place with a great rep, and I have also gotten one from there before as have all my famil so it is a sanitary place.
Just wondering if anything would get into your breastmilk...?

I honestly wouldn't see it as a problem, but I'd check with your doctor.
Besides, any tattoo that is worth getting is worth waiting for.

I don't mind waiting and will contemplate it for a few months before getting it. Would just like to show my love for Savannah sometime soon.

its really not advisable to have a tattoo whilst breast feeding hun most tattooists wont do it anyway but there are some that do, you are meant to wait at least 8 weeks after you stop breast feeding to have a tattoo otherwise there is a higher risk of infection, hope this helps, im still waiting for my tattoo to be able to be finished lol i fell pregnant when id had the outline done so had to wait till id had him to continue tattoo, now i have to wait till kai is at least 2 months old to let my body heal lol

It is perfectly fine! I read a huge study on it. Honestly, there is really no risk except for getting a disease and if you go to a clean reputable place it is fine. I have read so so sooo much about this topic. If you are really really worried you can pump that day, but there really is no risk.

I guess a lot of places won't due it incase of infection or Hep spreading to the baby. It is advisable to wait until your baby is 6 months old.

my husband works at a tattooist he is an apprentice tattooist and a fully trained body piercer and jon the tattooist he is learning from is the person i asked about it for you and he said that breast feeding takes a lot out of you making your immune system lower and higher risk of an infection, he reccommends minimum of 8 weeks after breast feeding and this is what he has learned in his more than 13 years working as a tattooist, but its entirely up to you some tattooists will tattoo you some wont, jon wont he said its not worth the risk and a good tattoo is worth waiting for, be very careful what you read online from places like google because at the end of the day anyone could have posted it. xx

I talked to my pediatrician first and was told it is completely safe to get one. I actually got one last weekend, and I'm breastfeeding.
But it is completely safe to get one. I also talked to a lactation consultant and my OBGyn and its all good. So go for it!

It really is safe. The risk is if you got an infection, and then you would need to stop breastfeeding so it did not pass through.

I intend to wait for a few months to really make sure it's the one I want but by then Savannah will be on solids. And i'll still be at work so can always pump an dump the milk if need be.

Yeah I am hoping to get a new tattoo soon! I want to get Helena's birth flower (an aster) in her birth stone colour (sapphire). What month was Savannah born again? Sept like Helena?

Yep she's a sep. I am getting a virgo starsign with flowers down my side, would get asters but i'd prefer either frangipani's or lillies I think. Yours will look brill though!
